We had the good fortune of connecting with Geneva Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Geneva, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to discover something I enjoyed doing every day of my life, so I decided to create my own business. I was fed up with working 9 to 5 and desired to be my own boss. I intended to pursue a childhood ambition of mine, which was to work as an event planner.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My military experience in the US Army is something I am very proud of. I served for six years as an active duty soldier and four years as a government contractor overseas. During the conflict in Iraq in 2004, I was deployed to the country. After that, I was assigned to Italy as my final duty location. When I first joined the military, the structure there helped mold me into the person I am now. The Army demonstrated discipline and patience to a rambunctious street kid who had no idea what it was like to be an adult. I learned to be humble and hard work. I was promoted every six months until I reached the rank of e5 Sergeant when I was discharged. It wasn’t easy, but there’s nothing I’d change. I founded this company because I used to escape my childhood drama by being creative as a child. I fashioned friendship bracelets, braided hair, organized parties for my younger siblings, and drew pictures. For me, being artistic was a way to express myself. I’ve always wanted to be a wedding planner because I adore fairytales. I enjoy the ability to bring people’s visions for any occasion to life. Then watching their expressions as they enter through the door is a wonderful treat for my soul.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my best friends came to visit, day one we will explore Old Sacramento which have riverfront restaurants, bars, museums, theaters, and kitschy shops. Then we will tour the California Capitol State building. The next day we will go to the Raging Waters water park. We will also go wine tasting and beer tasting at the local brewery. For the next couple of days we will go take a day trip to San Francisco, see the TV Full house, house and see Ms. Doubtfire, house for the movie. Go see the Golden State Bridge and park. Then go take picture of Alcatraz from Treasure island. You can also get a lot of pictures for the Bay area and the city skyline. We also might hit a comedy show at Tommy’s T Comedy Club.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my family and friends who have supported me from the beginning. I’m not sure where I would be now if it weren’t for their encouragement and believe in me. I am very grateful to have caring people in my life who accept me for who I am and encourage me to be my best self. So here’s to my family, Rosetta Jackson, Susan and Francis Richards, Zyasia, Michael, Gwendolyn, Jasmine, Keisha, Anthony, Angelo, Elijah, Takim, Tameka, Richarde, Mama Esther, my cousins, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, grandparents. Deanna, Candice, Tracy, Raven, Brittany, and Angelina are some of my best friends. They all mean a lot to me, and I want to express my sincere thanks. I love yall so much!
