We had the good fortune of connecting with Moosar Waithira and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moosar, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I hope that the brand I am building, which includes my successes and struggles, empowers young black women and men to be confident in who they are. I hope to encourage women to love themselves in every way and not to conform to societal standards but live in their truth, apologetically.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that what sets me apart is my confidence in who I am, my positivity, diligence in my work and overall good vibes that I like to vibrate to others. My journey began in 2015, as fitness enthusiast. At the time, I was overweight and constantly tired and sluggish. I hated how I felt about myself physically, mentally and emotionally. I wasn’t confident at the time, and hadn’t been for a while. So I made the decision to change my life by embarking on an active and healthy lifestyle. I documented my journey to a better me on my instagram page to keep me accountable as well as  encourage anyone else on the same journey to join me. In about a year and a half, I lost over 40 pounds and gained back my self esteem.
Because I felt like myself again, my confidence was back and I looked damn good (haha), I eventually took an interest to fashion and make-up. So in 2017, I started watching YouTube make-up gurus (Jakie Aina, Aaliyah Jay etc – we Stan!) to brush up on make up skills. Just as well, I developed an interest in photography and bought my first DSLR camera (a Canon D5500) that I still have to this day. I asked my friends to take pictures of me, that I would post on my instagram page as if it were my own “e-Magazine” LOL! Eventually, brands started to notice my work/posts on instagram and I began collaborating with brands like Fabletics, Shoplovera and MVMT to name just a few.
I still have a lot to learn about content creation/social media, as it is an ever-changing space. However, I enjoy every moment of it. From learning a lot, growing in the space, networking, collaboration with other amazing creators and getting inspiration from their work as well. It’s truly my passion.
I would like everyone to know that what I have learned and continue to learn as a creator, is that patience and consistency is key in building a brand that you want to last. Don’t compare your growth to anyone else. Your journey is uniquely yours, so embrace every part of it. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am definitely a foodie so most of my spots will be restaurants haha! But who doesn’t like to eat right?
Sushi – Oku sushi
Dinner and hookah – Rock Steady
Fancy dinner – Steak Market
Lunch/Dinner – Le Colonial
Hole in the wall – Heirloom Bbq

Hang out spots:
Ponce City Market
The beltline
Braves Stadium
Piedmont Park
Centennial Olympic Park

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my best friend Melody aka Virgody who has always had my back throughout my social media career and in life generally. She has actually acted as my personal assistant in the past when I needed help with my workload. She definitely pushes me to reach greater heights and she might not know it, but she inspires me to do better. She’s an all round loving and supportive friend and I am so thankful for her.
