We had the good fortune of connecting with Audrianna Wakefield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Audrianna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There are so many needs in every community, it literally starts with one person; with fire and desire to make a change, it ignites everyone around you.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a “creative” has so many layers. I write. I sing. I organize and plan, and see the vision for those of whom I collaborate with. Everyone has a story, my gift is storytelling; healing, even, through storytelling. Regardless of all our differences around the world, we each have stories that can be told through different mediums—that’s where I come in to make the connection. No, capturing one’s “story or essence” isn’t always easy, but there’s always some sort of relatability that can be captured to draw in “your people”….. In all of my writings, video recordings, blog think pieces, one thing remains the same, we all “feel” and can relate on some level. That’s worth exploring and creating a new narrative. I’m most proud of my recent endeavor, The Wakefield Project; an effort to bring more resources and community help to underserved communities. Without my family and friends, I wouldn’t have realized the true mission of my heart. The communities I’ve served in have given me so much hope and aspirations to “work for good.” Change is never easy, but working for the good of all makes all the difference!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had to bring my best friend into town, I’d definitely take her to the historic 4th Ward; we’d visit Martin Luther King Jr.’s old home and soak in the monumental history of Atlanta’s city. I’m a total history nerd, so we’d totally visit the Civil Right’s museum, and probably wind up in a few spots that I’ve canvassed during my day job. There’s so much history everywhere in Atlanta, we could literally go anywhere.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been so fortunate to be surrounded by such inspiring black entrepreneurs in my community: Danita A. Scott LLC, MindfulMochaMama, the DeAndrea Byrd brand and Tutu Maniacs, as well as Inspired Mom LLC—all Black-owned businesses, locally catering to the growth of Georgia and national work of those creating a tribe of successful partnerships and community engagement. It has been such a thrilling ride to know such women of standard and execution to bring visions to reality. It is because of this tribe of successful women that I began to bet on myself, and really make the change in my community that I wanted to see!
