Meet JaNei Pharr | Book Reviewer & Enthusiast

We had the good fortune of connecting with JaNei Pharr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JaNei, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Well, nobody really knows when to call it quits or not. There will always be that “What if?” factor that will either push you forward or chain you down. The best solution I’ve come up with is taking a break. Take a week or a month off of whatever you’re working on. Once the sabbatical is over, think about whether you’re still excited and passionate about what you were doing. If you aren’t, that should be your cue to let it go.
When I was younger, I used to read like a maniac. I don’t remember why I stopped; life probably got in the way. But during the pandemic, I picked up a book and was reminded why I loved reading in the first place. I wanted to get back in that space of reading for enjoyment. So I started The Litt Librarian and found a community of book lovers like me. The numerous positive feedback and engagement I’ve seen drive me to keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
By night I am a book enthusiast. During the day, I am a concert producer. Music has always been my first love, so it wasn’t surprising that I stepped into the music/concert industry. Let me tell you; it wasn’t easy. People always say: do what you go to do to get your foot in the door. But what if that door leads you nowhere? It’s a very competitive industry, and it tests how far you are willing to go to get to where you want to be. These challenges became a stepping stone and a learning experience for me to navigate through that world.
As far as my story goes, it’s still writing itself. I’ve worked with amazing companies such as Live Nation and Rival Entertainment, and my future goal is to have my platform right up there with them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend or relatives were visiting Georgia for the first time, I would take them around the College Park area. It’s an odd choice out of everything in Atlanta, but the food industry is incredible. I want my people to be able to eat well and enjoy themselves outside of the chaos and traffic of the highly populated areas. Afterward, I’d take them to the World of Coke, Piedmont Park, Ponce City Market, or The Painted Duck so they can get a feel for the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my mom and the Hear Our Voices book tour organization. My mother is the one who started my love of reading at a young age, and she’s the one that created this bibliophile monster. I also wanted to give a huge shout out to the Hear Our Voices company. They were the first book organization that I saw showcase and highlight books written by diverse authors for a niche crowd.
