Hi Kaila, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My brand was built from necessity. As a young woman dealing with Alopecia Areata, I wanted to create something that would help others like myself. I understood first hand how hair loss can play with your confidence and I wanted others to feel confident, no matter the circumstances. KaiSlayzBeauty is all about slaying insecurities and unleashing inner beauty.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have served in the Air Force for the past 6 years and it has been amazing. Would I say the job was easy? Not necessarily, just like everything else, it has its days. However it has been quite fulfilling! From learning new skills, to meeting new people and experiencing different cultures through deployments has made it all worth it. I use all of my experiences to give me different ideas for my brand. It allows to think of the other possible perspectives besides my own. I want the world to know that it’s ok to be vulnerable sometimes. Once you show that you aren’t afraid of your vulnerabilities, you can only become stronger. For the longest while, I didn’t want people to know about my Alopecia Areata and I kept it a secret. Once I decided to free myself from that burden, I found my purpose in helping others who were dealing with the same thing or something similar.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting in the area, we’d go to Atlantic Station. What I love about Atlantic Station is that they have a variety of things to do. Also the different restaurants allow you to choose what you have a taste for, all within walking distance. One of my personal favorites is Sri Thai because they have amazing food, atmosphere and drinks. What’s great about Atlantic Station is, you can try something new everyday and there is usually some kind of activity or festival going on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to all the strong women in my life, especially my mother, Diva! My mother has been nothing but supportive throughout all of my journeys in life. From struggling with Alopecia, starting up my business and just countless other things. Now it is my turn, as she has has embarked on her journey to become a commercial pilot, to support her just as she has done for me. My mother is hardworking and determined and she constantly shows me that I can always be better. She has been a beacon of hope and inspiration for me and many others. There are only 6% of female pilots in the world and the fact that she is adding to that number is truly amazing!
