We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Richards and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Timothy, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
Most difficult decision I made was dropping out of college back in 2018 to pursue my dream in designing. I thought my parents were gonna be angry and disappointed with me but it was the complete opposite reaction. They were completely on board and told me if that if follow through with this decision that I put in 110% and that they wouldn’t allow me to put in any less effort.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business Designs by Rich Studios LLC is streetwear brand located in Atlanta, GA focused on innovation and creativity of streetwear.

I think what sets me apart from other brands is that a good majority of my designs are taken from anime shows that I watched as a kid and how I coordinate it with my clothes in a rock star type of a way.

What I’m most proud of is my drive to keep creating even when I might have the best month in sales; I just love being able to say that I created a certain thing with my hands alone. What I’m most excited about is the future of the brand of where things would leave to.

I faced many challenges with my brand. For one I didn’t start Rich Studios until early 2019 , before I was “KOTD” in high school (2016-early 2018) and “Never Avg”(late 2018-early-2019). I had no clue what the hell I was doing at first especially the direction I was going with. At first I struggled with the products I created because I knew they weren’t me until I hooked up with some close friends and they told me that I needed to express my true creativity they knew I had. The one thing I struggle with is that my brand didn’t start pulling in any money until 2020(pandemic), but the most important lesson I learned is to be patient and stay the course which I did. I ended up pulling in a couple thousands a month even having times where I would make 1k in a day.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that this is the brand where you can be yourself and also step outside of your comfort zone and trying on different styles of clothing. Test your limits and see where your creativity leads you to.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first time place that comes to mind is the Little Five points area especially on Friday and Saturday nights it’s always like a party experience with people enjoying themselves late at night

Eating wise I would take them to Filinis Pizza, Hattie B’s and slutty vegan on Ponce and Jake’s for drinks

I would take them thrifting to places like Ragorama, buffalo exchange, and nearest goodwill

Most interesting place I will take them to is Versus ATL owned by one of my old mentors Leo who just opened up there second location near Mercedes bens btw. They have the true streetwear culture in there shop along with going to Goodtimes ATL. The both share that vintage nostalgia.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my mother Carolyn Outing! My mother is the reason why I started my passion back in middle/high school even when she said she didn’t have it she always made a way to get me the supplies I needed to get started. I don’t think my brand would have even been a thought today if she didn’t make those sacrifices for me
