We had the good fortune of connecting with Breonia Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breonia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I always wanted to be a model. I always wanted to work with Victoria Secrets and become an angel. However, I always knew I was meant to be my own boss. I knew what I loved to do which was model and make other women feel special. I decided to open Risqué Intimates to help bring confidence and sass to the closet of the everyday woman. We want you to own your beauty and sex appeal. We created a lingerie business that’s offers luxurious quality that fits your budget.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s mighty funny because outside of my business I work for a life insurance company and prior to that I worked for call centers. One day I was just really discouraged and felt unmotivated. I thought about my path in life and I wasn’t happy. I started my business in a small room at my grandma’s house who recently passed away. I started living pay check to pay check using my last for inventory. I then decided to implement all of my ideas and put my dreams into action. One thing I’ve learned while in this industry would be to worry about myself. Take time focus on my own journey without comparing mine to others. I learned to believe in myself because if I don’t who else will. Last but not least always have faith in God. I want the world to know that my business is a passion of mine it’s not a hustle. I’m a black girl from Milwaukee, WI just looking to make it and continue to build my brand. When the world catches on to Risqué Intimates I want you all to know that quality is key. Customers are the reason why we continue to grow and stay afloat. So I just would like to say thank you for even acknowledging my brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is filled with so much black excellence I didn’t get enough time to explore thoroughly. I’ll be taking another trip soon. I’d like to network and meet other business owners. I want to gain more knowledge. A week long trip would be amazing to relax but I love to work and pitch my brand wherever I go.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have two friends who encouraged me to open my business and to go for what I always wanted as well. Roberta Edwards owner of BombKouture & Renee Bennett owner of Suited Boutique. Without my team there wouldn’t be a Risqué. My entire support system keeps me grounded and leveled headed.
