We had the good fortune of connecting with B!G Duffel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Duffel, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Most of us grew up being told how to live our lives and not asking why, but it doesn’t have to be that way. People who made up this game called life were no smarter than us: we have the power to walk away from their standards and make our own. Oftentimes we adults forget the promises we gave ourselves as children. Children are organic and honest. Somewhere down the line between a child and adulthood, we allow others to place their limitations on us. The people we allow to influence us are on pedestals that only exist in our minds. These intangible factors range from anything such as relationship, position, title, or any perception of superiority. Children are easily persuaded and the disaster comes with the toxic environment they are born into. They’re families who constantly are at each other and never the issues. I plan to be THAT teacher, role model, and impact. I believe every child deserves a fresh start. Especially when a child’s reputation may precede him or her, whether it be good or bad, I can be that teacher that changes the trajectory of that child’s life. I believe that the whole reason why most of us became teachers in the first place. I keep asking myself, how can I be the best for my scholars remotely, relatable, and help them be their best?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m highly favored and blessed. I can say I am far beyond any expectations. The credit will always belong to God for creating the chance. Getting here cost me everything, I’ve buried huge pieces of my heart several times. The people who I love the most can not share any of this with me. Hell, even I barely made it to today. What does seem easy is to quit and sulk in bereavement. Honestly, I still grieve them all, from both parents, to close friends, and relatives. Through every time I have had music to get me through. I’m big on energy, especially growing up in the church. Some days it’s the lyrics, others may be the melody either way it’s music. Music sets the atmosphere for everything, whether we acknowledge it or not. Bob Marley once said “One thing about music, when it hits you you feel no pain”. Perseverance is the greatest lesson learned throughout this journey. I have had my best performances in the worst of times. I’d want the world to know my brand is a linage of a great legacy. I conduct my brand with decency and honesty demonstrating culture, class, and civility. Those blessings hit different when you remember what you went through to get them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whoever comes to visit me would have to know nothing will be done until after I’m off. I truly celebrate teaching. Besides, if I’m not booked it’s hard to come outside. I love staying at home, especially with new plugins hell. Hypothetically, of course….
Sundays are for brunch and with me getting dressed is everything. Anything after depends solely on the company. Most likely a day party would be the move or something photogenic like the aquarium or botanical gardens

Mondays are great for sports in Atlanta.

Tuesdays are for tacos. Whether we make them or take em; there’s no way to avoid Taco Tuesday!

Wednesday is the day to take that time to catch that second wind. Find a random lounge and reset.

Thursday brings that Throwback RnB vibe from overcoming the hump of the week to preparing for the weekend.

Friday traffic is bananas from the travelers to the tourists so Friday for me is the best time to build a fort and stay in. I hate Fridays.

Saturday morning are for self care which includes Alabama Football. I’m cleaning the house and getting a haircut then we outside. I’m usually booked so the tone is set according to the vibe of the booking.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s still God. There’s no way I could’ve been in a position for any of these opportunities without God. I was raised in the church so giving honor to God is a major part of my everything. The only person I can acknowledge is my late father JV Express. My father introduced me to the art of DJin. Church developed my love for music, my father refined the craft. I can still remember when I was too young to go he would let me help load up his van before he took me to my aunt’s or granny’s house for the night. Once I got older in high school he allowed me to come along and began to teach me the fundamental essentials. At that time DJs used CDs and my father burned his own. JV had the city on lock from his mixes, copies, to his live performances. The inspiration came from my point of view. I was there with him watching everything in awe. He wore me out cutting the grass all day. I was never a fan of yard work .My father was the coolest man I ever met. He had the finest women’s attention everywhere we went. It was amazing to watch him as he lit up every room he entered.
My intentions were initially to assist him but now it’s to continue his legacy. I have never been introduced to so many people who can relate to the dedication of the drive. The worst of times have all been solved with music. I owe that all to my father for introducing me to my first love.

About love, is there anyone special in your life? Who’s that person for you to be who we have all grown to love?
Y’all messy, first off. I have read that love is the greatest tragedy…the answer is God, still. God is love. I don’t have that person in my life simply because I’m huge on reciprocating energy. The longer we entertain what’s not for us, the longer we postpone what is.
When I do, know she’s a boss and was happy before we met. I believe that happiness is a personal situation and once a person finds that for themselves then they can sharei happiness. Understandable to share with  people who can relate than with any other person. Especially as with happiness, you could not be happy with someone who has yet to discover what makes them happy, it’s not fair. We all have been through stuff with more to come. So, until Bae finds happiness for themselves then who are we looking for? I’m not saying I have no flaws but come healed at least. We should want the best version of ourselves for the best version of the person who wants us. Once we all acknowledge where we lack internally, only then will we find who we need.
Most of all, I have zero tolerance for females who only bring sex to the table. I am in no position to gamble. As a DJ, teacher, or whatever reason sex isn’t a challenge for me. I have recently developed a new pleasure in saying “no” to sex. The crazy part is girls do not like being told no. Most females have a sense of entitlement and that only drives me further away. They are asking for stuff that they couldn’t get for themselves with no conviction. Besides, I prefer “regular girls”. I know for a fact I grew up with better quality females back home than here outside or on IG. The dating pool today is so contaminated anyway. No pressure on this at all any time soon. People will be who they are doing what they do. Most relationships today are only required to look good on social media. At this age I have a lot in my plate but if somebody catches my attention she’ll know, trust.
