We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynell Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynell, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My balance is always having to change depending on the season that I am in. It is always a tiny bit of a struggle to readjust once those changes happen, so I have to intentionally create a loose schedule that works for me. I used to be more of a night owl and would get a significant amount of work done then sleep in the next morning and do it all over. Now that I am adulting, balancing being a full-time student, working, and maintaining a social life, I had to revamp some things. Time blocking and sticking to my schedule has probably been my best tool to get the optimal balance. When I say balance, I don’t just mean getting all my work done, but making sure I have designated time for play, like hanging out with my friends and family, scheduling wine nights, book reading time, spa dates, and essentially anything else that I need to recharge. Done are the days where I hyperfocus on one thing. I intentionally make sure I have true balance incorporating things that fill up my energy cup.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a Mental Health Therapist in the Atlanta area and I empower people to become their true and authentic selves. This can be your best individual self, your best self in a relationship, or your best self amongst others. However that may look for you, I help to guide you there. I love the rapport and relationships that I build with each of my clients. I get to create a safe space where my clients can take off the masks and roles that they have on in the world and just be themselves. I encourage my clients to reflect on how far they have come and foster self-acceptance. I invite clients to curse if that’s their thing and bring their unique humor into the room.
A lot of times people have no clue what can happen in the therapy room and only have the image of what they see on tv. As a therapist, I love showing people that it can look a number of different ways and it is exciting to watch the process of people finding that out!
My path seemed to just open up for me honestly. I love what I do and I am pretty adamant about working in environments that work well for my personality and represent who I am as a person. I am excited to see where my professional journey is headed. I have accepted myself for the fact that I like to do multiple things at once, it keeps me engaged. I used to think that was a bad trait of some sort because I could never just do one thing and call it a day. This part of me transitioned from a challenge to a strength because I now accept that I like doing multiple things, instead of working against that part of me. I love that I have a million different ideas running around in my head for me to choose from. I can see my clients in individual sessions and also step more into the workshops and presentation world, while also encouraging future therapists as they develop their own identities. I am excited for all that is to come!
One lesson I have learned is that each therapist is different and that I have a lot to offer. As a therapist, I may not do things how another therapist may do things, and that is okay! My brand is really focused on working on being our most authentic selves because I believe that is when we are the happiest. I am not perfect and I am working towards this goal WITH you. I am not here to tell people how to do everything “right” but to guide and empower my clients as they explore what is best for them. I named my website/blog GetMindfulWithMe because I am on my own journey. I am a recovering perfectionist. I have to constantly and intentionally choose to live authentically in every space. That takes being mindful of the ways that I am not being authentic or true to myself and intentionally taking steps to work towards the person who I am meant to be. I invite you all on this journey with me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmm this sounds like fun already! Well, I love to do a variety of things but we have to start with brunch because I love a good mimosa, but I also like less of a crowd. We will head to this small place that I found called Three Blind Mice in Lawrenceville. They have bottomless mimosas, a cute ambiance, and every single thing that I have tried from them has been delicious. Then we are gonna change into some comfy clothes, because I live for comfort, and head over to Top Golf and miss a few swings but have lots of laughs because of it lol. Next, we have to visit The Po’Boy Shop where we will play darts, shoot some pool, even though I don’t know what I am doing half the time, and grab their famous hurricane drink. We will finish our amazing week with a visit to Jeju Spa where we will get some relaxation time in the multiple saunas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to every single person that I have interacted with over the course of my life. I always talk about how grateful I am for every individual that I have been around because I know that I have learned something from each person I have had the pleasure of coming into contact with, even if it was just for a season. Thank you for the imprint you left on me whether it be a perspective, an idea, or even just a laugh. I would not be the person and therapist I am if it weren’t for all of you.
