We had the good fortune of connecting with Armenté and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Armenté, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is an important step for anything you do in life. When an opportunity presents itself that may seem risky you often have to stop and think. How will my life change after I act on this? Will it benefit me positively or negatively? What if I can’t foresee the outcome? Is it worth the risk? Asking yourself these questions before taking a risk is an important part of making any decision in life. As a performing artist, I have had to take many risks along my journey. Anyone involved in the arts knows what it is like to have your first audition. Whether you are auditioning for American Idol or for a local theater production the feeling of auditioning in front of a panel of judges is undefined. You risk rejection, time, and sometimes money. Is the cost worth the risk of being told no a hundred times? If you are a true performer the answer will always be YES!! I remember the time I auditioned for the Showtime At the Apollo in New York City. At the time I was only 16 years old, so my mother and I drove from Ohio with hopes to catch the eyes of the judges. The line stretched for maybe two blocks as I watched Bobby Brown impersonators, singers, comedians, and more wait for their chance to be heard. After about 6 hours of waiting in line, It was finally my turn. As a child entertainer, I had auditioned many times before for local contests, but this was my first true audition as “Armente”. I went on stage and performed Etta James ‘Rather Go Blind”. I had hit notes that exceed anything I had rehearsed and I could see the auditionee’s faces light up as I ended my last note. For the first time, I knew that a risk I had taken was going to pay off. Shortly after my mother and I went home I received a call that I had made it through the first round of auditions. That one YES opened many more doors for me for the future. Now I am older and I have taken many more risks to get where I want to be in my career. Including moving across the country for better opportunities, beginning my solo career, and investing in equipment to learn and expand as an artist. I have been told no many times, but the times where I was told YES has shown that taking risks are worth it. “A life without risks is just routine” -Armente

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Armente is originally from Canton, Ohio, and began her career as a professional singer, songwriter at age 10 when she auditioned for a local version of making the band. While being co-vocalist of the band for over 4 years she also performed in over 15 theater productions. while competing in many singing competitions as a solo artist. Armente plays the guitar, piano, trumpet, and saxophone, and has used these abilities to develop her unique sound in her music. In 2017, Armente decided to fully go solo and is set to release her new album this year. Armente is a Neo Soul/R&B Artist who enjoys writing music that not only speaks to her personally, but that will move anyone who hears it as well. “I have always found joy in people asking me to sing my songs to them, or when supporters send me videos of them lip-syncing every word of my song. My work feels like it pays off”. Armentes journey started from the age of 4 when she sang at her aunts’ wedding. ” I was always called the little girl with the big voice. I was only four years old singing these powerful songs like Whitney, Christina, and Etta James.” From there she had enrolled in a performing arts school and began her career in the arts. “During my first audition for the musical “Annie” I was nervous and didn’t expect much. However they casted me as Annie and the rest is history.” From there out Armente was the lead singer in two rock/pop bands and then finally debut her solo career in 2017. “Getting to where I am today was not easy but took a lot of work from an early age. It is easy for anyone to become an artist but I can record my vocals, harmonies, and produce my own sound with little to no effects all from the training I have received over the years. There is power in knowledge and I would not have gotten to where i am today without it. Between going to college and battling personal issues I have never allowed any of those things to defer me from my dream. I can honestly say that was just how I was created. Going out late to perform even though I had an exam in the morning were all risks I had to take to make it to the point that I am at today. I am proud to say that I am a Neo soul artist who can produce her own music from the comfort of her home. The biggest lesson I have learned throughout my journey would be to persevere. There are so many times in life where you want to give up because you feel like you lack support or possibly financial burdens. but if it is truly something you want to do you have to keep going. I am only at the first stepping stone that I want to be at, but there is no doubt in my mind that I won’t reach every goal that I have. I want the world to know that this is only the beginning of Armentes journey, and you may hear that name today and wonder who is that, but soon everyone will know and get to experience Armente right along with me. Music is more than just a profession to me it is love and passion, and I hope that that love will grow like wildfire to the entire world.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of the best places to visit would definitely be Centennial Park. Its such a nice place just to hang out but they also have events there all the time.

Now say if you were going out I always recommend any hookah lounge in the area. If you want to enjoy some good Caribbean food with music and vibes I suggest Ole Lounge in Stone Mountain. It is the perfect place for a good time.

If you are interested in history I would always recommend taking a visit to the Martin Luther King Memorial. It is educational and a beautiful spot to visit to pay respects to the late Martin Luther King, and his wife.

There is also so many beautiful parks in Atlanta with waterfalls and play sets for kids to enjoy.

If you are in town for the summer I would highly encourage you to visit the “Sweet Auburn Music Festival” Live entertainment from local artist, good food, and a all around great time.

I can honestly name thousands of things to do in Atlanta but experiencing them for yourself is definitely the way to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my mother and father who put me in the right activities and always kept me on track during my childhood. Their parenting allowed me to keep the same drive as an adult and led me too my career today. I would also like to give a shoutout to Betty Smith, and Carolyn Long who were consistent mentors in my life and helped me manage both my career, schooling, and work balance.
