We had the good fortune of connecting with Gretchen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gretchen, what principle do you value most?
Authenticity and humility mean the most to me because most of the time people can listen to a song and know it’s coming from a genuine place. At the end of the day I’m just a regular person with a passion for making music. Everybody has a gift and I never want to downplay mine, however there’s a happy medium between knowing who you are and keeping a sense of humility. Let the music and the way you move do the talking, no matter how long it takes.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s just always been a passion for me. Music has been my safe space ever since I was young. I figured I could share the music I make when I’m really low or really high and that at least one person could connect – and in that way I would be doing my job. It hasn’t been easy, nothing ever is. I’m still trying to figure myself out and of course that translates through my music. I know at the end of the day if I want something badly enough I’m going to find a way to get it. I think that’s an overall message for my brand as a whole: feel out the times of pain and happiness but never let it get in the way of you accomplishing your goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest I’m the kind of girl that loves to stay in and order food and smoke a little weed or take an edible. I’m all about quality time and I’m obsessed with psychological thrillers. I love going to the movies, I love going on walks, and I love laying out by the pool. In my opinion, it’s more special to do things like that when you’re with people you love.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly I just want to shout out Lauren McClinton and A.B. Eastwood. I think they are just really out here doing what they love and supporting the people they believe in. Together they have made and continue to make their mark on Nashville and it’s really exciting to watch their journey. You can follow both of them on Instagram at @laurenmcclinton and @a.b.eastwood.
My friends, family, music teachers, etc… they have all also made a mark on my journey but that goes without saying.
