We had the good fortune of connecting with Tahirah Naeemah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tahirah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always chosen Cosmetology. My mother taught me how to braid at an early age. My curiosity peaked when she bought me a mannequin during my elementary years. After a short stint in basketball I decided I’d like to be behind the scenes and pursue Athletic Training in college. Once in college I quickly realized that wasn’t the route I’d be taking though it was something that I put a lot of energy into. After graduating college with a degree in Recreational Therapy minoring in Health Education & Promotion I moved to a new city and applications began to fly all around me. While waiting for responses I decided to rent a chair at a near by salon and needless to say I’m grateful for every experience that led me up to that moment. Every day I go to work I’m experiencing my own form of Therapy. Entrepreneurship gives me the freedom I seek while being an outlet for myself and others. It is a safe space that allows me to create and interact with people from all facets of life while leaving an impact. I’m glad I chose to become a Master Cosmetologist.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Entrepreneurship isn’t an easy journey but it doesn’t have to be difficult with the right people in your corner and connections made through networking. There are some people that have the blueprint you just need to be willing to do the work. Consistency is key. I believe I’m still in business because I’ve mastered some skills and I continue to provide consistent work. I’ve learned that clients want to know that the service you’re providing is exactly what they expected to receive based off of previous work. I’m continuously thinking of new services and product to provide my clientele with as trends emerge and or return. I want the world to know that when it comes to cosmetology I want to provide them with the best service possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some places I frequent while in Atlanta are Little 5 Points and Atlantic Station. Lunch from Sevananda in Little 5 Points is a must. Surin of Thailand off Ponce and Noodles in College Park are top on my list of eateries. Paschals in Castleberry Hill would make the cut too. In case you haven’t figured it out I enjoy eating. Before leaving Castleberry Hill we would stop by City of Ink for some ink from one of their talented artist. To close the week we could visit The Battery and The Botanical Garden.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mentors in the business of cosmetology Ms.Tammie of Totally U Salon in East Point, GA and Trini of Paris in Hollywood salon located in Hollywood, FL, Courtney Coprich for her amazing graphic design abilities, Mr. Shaver a Cosmetology instructor at Ogeechee Technical College located in Statesboro, GA, a slew of supportive friends/clients, Alexander Daniels for his guidance through this entrepreneurship journey and last but not least my mother Melva Bryant and Grandmother Betty Moseley for their endless support.
