Meet Kenshara Bush | Cake Artist and Confectioner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenshara Bush and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenshara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In my personal opinion the most successful entrepreneurs are those who willingly take risks, knowing that the outcome may or may not be favorable. The amazing thing about life is even when something does not work out as planned, a lesson can still be extracted, and the lesson is what’s most valuable because either you know what to do or not to do going forward.
I believe a lack of risk taking or optimism would’ve resulted in my business crashing and burning! Running a business involes a lot of give an take – You’re looking to provide the most innovative and amazing product or service for your customers, which in turn may involve risking the money in your bank account, losing sleep, or possibly even failure just to name a few. I however always tell myself there’s nothing I cannot do, learn, or bounce back from!
Taking risks has put me in the position to network with so many amazingly talented and connected individuals, and I’ve also learned so many new skills soley based off of taking risks. Even just starting a business is a risk in itself, and once I got past that point, I knew the world was my oyster!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For the love of baking! I think what sets me a part from others in this industry is my genuine love for people and the understanding that I have the capasity to really make someone’s day just by bringing their vision to life. It also doesn’t hurt that my desserts are super yummy as well lol. I truly value connecting with people, and my business is not soley based on how much money I can make, but rather how many smiles I can put on people’s faces and how many times my desserts can make someone say “Yummm” each and every day. I believe adopting that mindset has allowed for money and opportunities to just flow, and for that I am grateful.
I am so extremely proud of how far I’ve come, and continue to look forward to whatever God and the Universe has in store for me. Would you believe this became a business venture by accdient? It all started when I made some cake pops for a fundraiser at my corporate job, and from there it just took off. I had general knowledge of baking from my grandmother, and I’m naturally artistic (I also love to draw, paint, and sing), plus I never shy away from taking a risk, so when someone randomly asked me make a birthday cake, of course I said yes! I promise you in the beginning, it was not as easy as I make it look now, and looking back at my first cake, it was pretty bad looking lol! But that of course is just a testiment to my growth, and I can only appreciate the journey. I think the biggest challenges were trying to learn all that I can, manage my time, and grow a brand, while still working a full-time job. Through persistence, a ton of sleepless nights, and practice I have overcome those particular challenges, but as a business owner there will always be more especially if you really are a risk taker! So I just say bring it on!
I’ve learned along the way the best thing you can do is stay true to yourself. Don’t worry about what the next person is doing and how successful they may be. The comparison game is such a dangerous one! You never know how long an individual has been on their own journey and what they have sacraficed to get there. Your journey is uniquely your own! Nothing is new under the sun, so all you can do is add your own unique flair to the industry! I have also learned that giving up is never an option when you’re passionate about something. Never let the world tell you where you need to be based off of a madeup standard. Do everything with love, and the blessings will flow. I want the world to see my brand as one that is a representation of everyone on this planet! My goal is to create a unique and personal experience for everyone with tons of love and creativity. We are all Shara’s Sugar Shack!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is full of so many hidden gems, and you literally can find something that suits every single one of your moods here! As a tour-guide, I would definitely have to take my earthy friends and lovers of nature to the Botanical Gardens or Raven Cliff Falls. We most definitely have to check out Ponce City Market, The Beltline, and Krogg Street Market for the vibes, Hippie Hibachi, Plant Based Pizzeria (Mid-Town or Sandy Springs), and Eclipse Di Luna for the food. Last but definitely not least, the nightlife options are bountiful, however my most memorable nightlife experiences have happened at Venetian Lounge and Moustache Lounge in Sandy Springs, Blue Lounge and Pasha Lounge in Buckhead, and Xperience Lounge in Brookhaven! We’d definitely have to check out all 5!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where do I begin! My support group is beyond amazing! From God, to my parents, the rest of my family and close friends; I literally cannot thank them enough, and I believe they have been part of the driving force behind my success and growth. It’s not just about monetary support, sometimes the best support comes via referrals, or even shares and likes on social media. Some of my most profitable orders have come from referrals initiated by family and friends! When I’ve felt lost or unsure of my next move, alot of my motivation and help with ideas have come from them too! I don’t know where I would be without them.
I also of course can’t forget my late grandmother, Earnesteen. She was known around town as “The Cake Lady” for her amazingly delicious cakes and desserts. I didn’t realize until I really delved into this industry how much of an influence she had over my passion and love for baking, and how much information I gained just watching her as a kid and teenager!
I would also like to shoutout the pioneers of this industry. They really are the ones who took the risk of put themselves out there to be judged by the world via social media, which in turn has made journeys such as mine so much easier than it maybe would’ve been years ago.
