We had the good fortune of connecting with Jovan Pope and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jovan, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is Customer Service. I repeat, CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was taught as a child to have manners, show respect and treat others the way that I would want to be treated. Fast track to today as an adult, I always greet my customers, no matter the time of the day. I’ll say, “Good morning, hope all is well!” I want my customers to feel welcomed, appreciated and important. Customer Service means nothing without the support of amazing customers.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is being myself. I’ve never felt forced to change who I am to please my customers. I’m a very uplifting and positive person that loves to make and see others happy. My most proud moment was when my schedule was recently booked with 18 pairs of shoes in a week for the first time. This was a huge achievement for me! I then reflected back to my days in college when I would clean up to only 5 pairs of shoes in a week. Patience, determination and having a plan helped me get to where I am today. Instead of just saying “I will do something”, I chose to put my words into action and make it happen. Once I realized the importance of putting my words into action, it brought me more success; however, this process wasn’t easy. To overcome this challenge, I began reading motivational books. One specific book titled “Think and Grow Rich”, helped me realize that having money doesn’t make you successful. Success comes from what brings you happiness. I love what I do and that is what makes me successful. I want the world to know that you can be yourself and do what you love to become successful. Have fun doing what makes you happy because I surely am!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
You can never go wrong with seafood! My personal favorite is “Rock and Toss” located in Bowie, Maryland. Some of the best seafood I’ve had. Entertainment wise, indoor go cart racing is the best way to compete. I’m very competitive, especially if it’s against my best friend. The indoor racetrack is know as “Autobahn” located in Columbia, Maryland.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would first like to thank my mother and step father for believing in my dreams. I would also like to thank my little brother for helping me with pictures, marketing, and support. My mentor (Nathan Hawkins) for helping me perfect my craft. My professors for encouraging me to do what I love. Last but not least, my customers. I would’ve never made it this far without their support.
