Where are you from and how has it impacted you?

Even if you are from the same neighborhood as someone else, you might still be coming from different places. Where you are from is a complicated question and it elicits complicated, but interesting and thought-provoking responses. We’ve shared some of those responses below.

Well to answer that question I’ve got to go to a few places. I was born in ATLANTA Georgia. I moved to Gary,IN when I was 3 and lived there until I was 12 and then I moved to Memphis,TN. Glenview Park, South Memphis to be specific. These three cities are some of the blackest cities in America. I consider myself a Midwest southerner. Although I definitely consider myself a Memphian above all else. Each of these cities have shown me what it means to love being black, and coming from a black city. My outlook on life is that black is beautiful and I wouldn’t be able to understand that in such a deep and spiritual way had it not been for these beautiful black places. Read More>>

Im from Milwaukee Wisconsin really it’s like a little Chicago. I was born and raised in the church and from the time I heard soul singing, hands clapping, and tambourines popping it was on. I was born & raised in a small town in NW Georgia. I chose to start a family in the suburbs of Marietta, Ga. I grew up with amazing work ethics that were driven in me by my hard-working family.
