Where are you from and how did your background and upbringing impact who you are today?

Through our work we have had the good fortune of seeing firsthand how success comes in every shape, size, color, faith, and orientation. More importantly we’ve learned that success is often the result of people embracing their unique backgrounds and so we’ve asked the community to tell us about their background and how it has impacted where they are today.
As a native of and originally from suburban Montclair, New Jersey I was fortunate to have a richly diverse and privileged childhood and upbringing. With a stable home, and professional, educated parents it made the difference in my focus and future career path. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio where I spent the majority of my life until I moved to Atlanta for college. I come from a very family oriented household and we often bonded by going to the movie theater together. My family has always encouraged me to tap into my creative side. I am originally from Brooklyn, New York, but I was raised in Florida. Growing up, I was always focused on my future and where I wanted to be in the years ahead. The environments I lived in weren’t reflective of the aspirations I had for myself, so I often found myself daydreaming about the life I wanted to create.
I’m originally from New York City but spent most of my life growing up in metro Atlanta. My roots are deeply connected to my Black-Caribbean heritage through both my mom and dad. Read More>>
