We had the good fortune of connecting with Mireille Beckwith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mireille, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Staying true to who I am and the content I want to create. Sometimes in the creator space, it’s easy to get caught up in what other people are doing, and if successful, want to mimic that. I have learned it’s better in the long run to stick to what I love whether it’s popular or not, because that helps me build a stronger brand than if I wasn’t sure who I was or what I liked. This thought process has also allowed for my community, no matter how small, to trust me and building a loyal following. Because of this, we get to know each other, and my audience knows me. My goal is for my sponsored content to run into my non-sponsored content and for there to not feel like any forced gap between the two. For this to be a successful career, sponsorships are important and inevitable, so to have it feel as organic as possible is something I have worked years at.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my talent and eye for what I love to do, and in this case style and be creative with fashion. In my space, a lot of people can wear the popular clothes and trends, but it’s important for me to be the trend setter and create things not yet done, that would be inspiring to others. Aside from the blogging part of my online presence, I style, which sets me a part in this space. I am the stylist for Atlanta’s Apparel Mart, which includes specific projects for markets 6 times a year, as well as two huge runway shows. I also style clients all over Atlanta on a more personal wardrobe level. The challenging part is being able to sell yourself when you are the creator, the PR person, the writer, the advertiser, etc. I had to explore all avenues to be able to make this a sustainable career. I have a degree in Political Science/City Planning, but my creative side always won, so I stayed in the retail world just to be close to clothes. I worked hard, and continued to rise through the ranks to run my own retail stores as store managers, and eventually found a company that allowed me to use those years of training, and shape that differently in the creative space (at Anthropologie). This was all separate from my blog but what I believe to be my building blocks behind my thought process when it comes to fashion. I have grinded and hustled for many years to build a brand, that includes my website and social media following community, but also my reputation. I want someone to look at my work and be able to recognize that that is me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Right now, I’ve become a huge foodie and just basically follow the food, which I suppose is a weird combo coming from a fashion person. I would take them to my favorite places around Atlanta, I’m all about gorgeous views, good coffee, and fashion. My favorite coffee shops are Chrome Yellow in Edgewood, Little Star in Westside Provisions, and Valor in downtown Alpharetta. My favorite pizza is Pizza Lucca in downtown Roswell with a stroll around the Roswell Mill and Canton Street, and ending up at Avalon in Alpharetta for dinner and more strolling. I love walking around and window shopping, basically being active in a developed setting. I appreciate the outdoors/nature sometimes, but love little culture nooks that Atlanta has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Robert patiently allowed me to pursue a passion that eventually turned into a career. When I felt like I had no support at all and was blogging for possibly 5 people reading it, when I feel like my friends tuned me out, and my social media was confused as to what and why I was posting, Robert listened. He knew this was a passion and let me live it. He took my photos every weekend or on lunch breaks, and allowed me to quit my corporate job to focus on this blog. A positive source to remind you why you are doing something you love during a valley or low time, is important in entrepreneurship, and he was able to do that for me.
