We had the good fortune of connecting with Zuri Pryor-Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zuri, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

As I’ve journeyed through intimacy coordination, sex therapy, and mental health, my perspective on work-life balance has shifted significantly. Initially, I poured all my energy into building my expertise and driving change in the entertainment industry. I was all about the hustle, working long hours to pursue my career goals.

But over time, I realized that true fulfillment requires more than just professional success. I began to see the importance of weaving personal well-being into the fabric of my life. It was a game-changer. While I remained committed to my work, I understood the need to create a balanced lifestyle that nurtured not only my career but also my personal passions and connections.

Today, I approach work-life balance from a more holistic standpoint. I’ve learned that taking care of myself outside of work is just as crucial as excelling in my career. So, I make sure to set aside time for family, friends, and hobbies that light me up. Whether I’m hosting game nights, spinning tunes as a DJ, or exploring the great outdoors with my furry friend Mikko, these moments of joy recharge my batteries and keep me grounded.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My journey in intimacy coordination, sex therapy, and mental health advocacy is all about promoting healthy relationships, consent culture, and inclusivity in entertainment. I think what makes me stand out is how I blend my rigid clinical expertise with a personal touch.

I take pride in merging my background in therapy with the specialized role of intimacy coordination. This means I don’t just handle the technical side of on-screen intimacy; I also prioritize the emotional well-being of everyone involved.

Getting to where I am hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced challenges and doubts, especially in such a new field. But through it all, I’ve learned the importance of staying true to myself and my values. That authenticity has been my compass, guiding me through tough times and making me stronger.

My work is fueled by a deep desire to make a positive impact. Whether I’m advocating for consent on set or providing therapy, my mission is clear: empower others to lead fulfilling lives and create a world of respect and authenticity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Welcoming my bestie to Atlanta means diving into the city’s vibrant culture and fun! Here’s a jam-packed themed itinerary for a week of eats, adventures, and unforgettable moments:

Day 1: Southern Comfort Food Adventure

We’ll kick things off with a hearty meal at Mary Mac’s Tea Room, diving into some classic Southern soul food. Next we will play games at Joystick in Edgewood. Then to STK for late night happy hour. Lastly, it’s off to explore the lively nightlife at my favorite LGBTQ+ bar, My Sister’s Room, for a night of dancing and good vibes.

Day 2: Dive into Culture

We’ll start with a visit to the APEX Museum or the King’s Center Museum to learn about the African American history in Atlanta. After, it’s time to chow down on some tasty Caribbean bites at Tassa Roti Shop and stroll along the Auburn Ave, soaking in the local art scene.

Day 3: Outdoor Fun

Today, we’ll escape the city for a day at Stone Mountain Park, where hiking and picnicking await. On the way back, we’ll refuel with some vegan burgers at Slutty Vegan and skate the beltline. We may even do some ramp skating in Old Forth Ward.

Day 4: Wellness Retreat

Get ready for a day of zen! We’ll start with a drop in pilates class at Stretch ATL, then indulge in spa treatments at Jeju Sauna. Dinner at Rock Steady or Blu Seafood will cap off our day of relaxation.

Day 5: Artsy Adventures

We’ll dive into Atlanta’s art scene at the High Museum of Art, then grab lunch from Slutty Vegan’s food truck. Afternoon vibes? Exploring colorful street art in Cabbagetown. Late dinner and games at Randevoo Lounge with an RnB fueled DJ tops it off.

Day 6: Unique Exploration

It’s time to hit the shops in Little Five Points for unique finds. Lunch at Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen and Bar, then catch a show at Lips Atlanta for a night of entertainment with the queens. Or skip all of that and head up to Northshore Landing with my RV and have a lake, cookout, fishing, fire pit kind of day.

Day 7: Brunchin’ & Goodbyes

We’ll say farewell over an amazing boozy, brunch at TRUTH Midtown with DJ M and DJ Face, reminiscing over Asian Fusion Southern-inspired dishes and sipping mimosas.

With a week like this, my friend will get a taste of everything Atlanta has to offer—good food, great company, and memories to last a lifetime! Wouldn’t you want to join us?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Absolutely! I’m deeply thankful for the many people and experiences that have shaped my journey.

First and foremost, my incredible mother’s unwavering support and sacrifices have been my foundation, instilling in me a strong work ethic and belief in education.

I’m grateful for mentors and colleagues who have guided and inspired me, expanding my horizons in sex therapy and mental health.

Communities and organizations have provided support and opportunities for growth, fostering collaboration and connection.

Clients and collaborators have entrusted me with their stories, empowering my passion for positive impact.

And, of course, a shoutout to my furry companion, Mikko, whose love and joy remind me to embrace every moment.

This list is endless and spans decades. My journey is a collective effort, shaped by countless individuals and experiences, each contributing to my growth and success. I could not be more grateful!
