We had the good fortune of connecting with Zollyann Howell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zollyann, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Wow! This is one of the first times I’ve ever been asked this question and it has truly put me in a place of gratitude. I think one of the biggest things most entrepreneurs or people in general struggle with is knowing what they want or where they want to be in life. Often times you hear the typical answer, I want to be happy, I want to be financially stable, I want to have generational wealth and the list goes on and on. But I think for me it’s much deeper than being financially stable or happy or building generational wealth. For me it’s about fulfilling my purpose, and that purpose is whatever God has ordained.
Going through this journey of entrepreneurship has opened me up spiritually and has also allowed me to expand my mind and fall into my passion. My passion is the work I do through my business which allows me to fulfill my mission in life. My mission is my end goal. Let me explain that a bit more. My mission in life is to serve. That means doing my due diligence as a human to make the world a better place in any way that I can, whether it’s by sharing my journey and inspiring someone, feeding the homeless, giving back to those less fortunate, motivating and inspiring children and women to go after their dreams etc. The list is vast but that list is my end goal in life. The mission is to serve. My end goal in life is to ensure that I fulfill my mission serving and doing god’s work. That’s it!
What should our readers know about your business?
I enjoy collaborating with other women and individuals who aligns with my values and purpose. I am a “we’re doing this together”, “I believe in you” type of person! I know not all women have this mentality but there are alot of us who do! Especially if you’re a woman of color! I understand your struggle and I’m not going to add to it!
I struggled a lot in the beginning as an entrepreneur when I first started my first business because I lacked the knowledge and resources to build the foundations of my businesses properly. I had to learn along the way as I made “real” mistakes.
I had to overcome many challenges throughout my journey as entrepreneur. And every challenge I walked away with a valuable lesson. Now I have a notebook that’s filled with lessons that I turned into inspiration to help me pivot, grow, learn and build my brand and businesses.
Books by Zee is more than just a bookstore. Books by Zee is about bringing a group of women together and creating a safe space for us all to create, network, share the resources needed to change our mindsets and accomplish our goals.
Books by Zee is about providing opportunities for children and families to have access to books to not only improve their reading, build their love for literacy but to also motivate, encourage and inspire them.
Books by Zee is all about community. I truly understand the value of having people who believe in your mission and purpose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Listen! I love that Atlanta provides a vast variety of spaces for people to enjoy! If you’re a creative traveling to Atlanta then these spots would definitely be enjoyable and you’ll be able to capture great content as well. Grabbing brunch at Breakfast at Barney’s. Spend an afternoon at The Bakery Cowork space to shoot some fun content and network with other women. Later in the evening hitting up Dancin Crepe for some bomb drinks, delicious food and good vibes.
There’s so much to do in Atlanta! Google and yelp will be your best friend.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people that has contributed to my success. I am nothing without the encouragement and support of my customers and the people who truly loves what I do and genuinely supports me without any hidden Agenda.
However, I think my most recent success story was truly because of the seat that I took at the Table at Pinky Cole’s American Sesh.
The American Sesh had a huge impact on me in so many ways and it was also like a reality check! The knowledge and encouragement that was poured into me truly gave me hope. Some days as a Mom, full time Educator and Entrepreneur it’s so difficult to coexist and be successful at each role. The American Sesh truly changed my life in the most meaningful way possible. I was able to walk out of that room with so much inspiration, motivation, hope, and confidence that it fueled me to make intentional moves and action steps to help me accomplish my personal and professional life goals. The American Sesh opened up doors for me to connect, collaborate and build with other amazing entrepreneurs..
The American Sesh changed my life in the most inspirational and god confirming way. I will forever be grateful for receiving that blue couch in my DM.
