Meet Zanny Anderson: Addictions Counselor, Reiki Master, Hypnotherapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zanny Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zanny, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Embracing the idea of taking risks is something I’ve recently come into more over the past few years. Challenging myself hasn’t always come easily, but I find that I reap the biggest rewards when I push beyond my comfort zone, trust myself, and allow my intuition to guide me. I grew up in a conservative, Christian family so doing Reiki energy healing and Hypnotherapy are healing modalities I’ve come into completely on my own. The healing modalities I use with clients are considered unconventional to many, but I enjoy introducing an alternative healing perspective. Working at an addictions treatment center and having my master’s in Clinical Mental Health, I enjoy being a “bridge” for people from western to eastern schools of thought.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My passion in my career is helping clients heal from trauma and addiction. My sessions are experiential, and I enjoy taking clients on a journey during our sessions which is different than traditional therapy. Half the session is discussing what the client is currently moving through in their life, and from there we either do Reiki energy healing or Hypnotherapy for the second half of the session.
Hypnotherapy helps clients heal their subconscious mind which governs 90% of our behaviors! When I discovered how transformational hypnotherapy was in my own healing, I was inspired to learn how to help others heal with this modality as well. Reiki energy healing allows clients to come back to their center, feel more relaxed, and release any energy that does not belong to them. I thoroughly enjoy it when I can help clients relax as we live in a world that is filled with so much noise and distractions. Powerful transformation can occur when we can heal our energy and our subconscious mind!
Doing this type of alternative healing work was challenging in the beginning because I had to release any judgments that I received from others. Now, because I have my master’s in Clinical Mental Health, that adds to my credibility and so these days it happens less and less. Oftentimes my clients have never tried Reiki or Hypnotherapy before and so they are naturally a little hesitant. However, the more open and curious you can be to healing yourself, the more beautiful opportunities and possibilities can be presented!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the city are in Inman Park where I live. I enjoy eating healthy and yummy food at restaurants like Bartaco, Delbar, and Bettlecat. Krog Street Market is also a fun spot!
I’m very conscious of my health and wellness and so I enjoy doing frequent runs on the Beltline and the Freedom Parkway path. You can also catch me at MiscFit gym in Buckhead where I go for personal training.
I love spending time outside and spending time at parks or nature trails around the city. I feel like an ideal weekend would consist of a combination of some yummy restaurants, working out, and being outside in nature.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my Reiki teacher, Janet Raftis for introducing me to Reiki four years ago. Without meeting her I would not be the healer I am today. She is an amazing divine feminine channel, mentor, and friend and I love her dearly!
