Meet Yxng Don: Rapper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yxng Don and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yxng, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks has played a MAJOR role in, when I first started rapping a lot of individuals who I was close to at the time said some pretty discouraging things that would make me think wow maybe I wouldn’t sound right. I took everything they said and turned it into pressure. When I listen to my project that will be dropping in august, I think to myself like I’m glad I took that risk and proved every last person wrong I get such a great response from snippets to just me being in the studio. I just get so much love just as much hate. You never know what’s out there. Taking that risk got me a few great opportunities!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other artist especially where I’m from, is my sound. While I was perfecting my craft I even cut music out from a lot of mainstream music as well because I wanted to find my own voice and tone. A lot of artist are using autotune right now and I wanted to go a different route with my sound. I feel like i have an attention grabbing sound.
I am most proud and excited about my upcoming project that will be release very soon. I’ve been working in this since about early 2019. I was playing with a lot of sounds and It took me a while to find that perfect tone and I got it. This mixtape is very personal because I put my all into it I took a lot of risk in the making of it and when the world hear it you be able to tell.
You’ll be able to see what I been working on how I been and was feeling from between 2019-2021. A lot of the songs have true events in them as well. You’ll be able to also hear a few of my musical influences in my music as well.
I got where I am today professionally by going through with my vision has from the very start and being myself. A long time friend who is also an artist who goes by the name “Kaze”. Introduced me to my engineer. It wasn’t easy at all I’ve had people trying to stop me from rapping from the very start. From saying discouraging things like “I can’t rap” or
“you don’t sound right rapping” because it was something they weren’t used to from me. Some of the things they used to say would get to me at times but I had to remember why and who I do this for. One of my favorite artist said “when you start winning them stories start spinning” and it’s true as hell. You have to always keep in mind WHY YOU STARTED. My biggest goal with music is to be able to put my family in a better position because nobody has done it. Also I want to put other artist from my city in a better position then eventually start a major label and become a multi billionaire because nobody from city has done that yet either.
REMEMBER YOUR VISION.
some lessons I’ve learned along the way is trust the process, remain humble at all times and keep faith that you make it out.
I want the world to know that, I never had it easy and Philly doesn’t get the proper recognition when it comes to its contribution to music and I wanna be the ONE OF THE BEAT to put on for my city shout meek as well because he is the only rapper to make it out from city successfully. I’ve had sleepless nights writing from sun up to sun down. Practicing any and everywhere I went. I take my craft very serious and we will REACH EVERY GOAL WE SET!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I’m with my best friend the best time ever to me is just chilling eating seafood vibing go 90 r&b. We think we oldheads it’s so funny. Me and my best friend been best friends since the 3rd grade so she witness all my weird phases and stuff. She supported me doing music from day 1 anywhere with her Is the best time ever.
