We had the good fortune of connecting with Yoshee So and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yoshee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’m a big believer in embracing risk in my life journey. Risk is a source of growth for me. Due to the nature of my work as a standup artist, risk is constantly showing up because I must deliver on delivering laughs at all costs. This has prepared me to approach risks in other facets of my life as well. Risk is a given and if you can embrace it, you can define how you approach it rather than letting it manage you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider myself a creative of many skills from marketing to standup to life coaching, I enjoy it all. I am the product of amazing parents that instilled hard work into my brain as a condition of making it in this world. I found my passion for performing later on in life but I’m so excited that I eventually found it as it has been an amazing source of happiness for me. Getting here took faith and finding good people to be around and the willingness to put that same good energy back into the community that I ultimately serve. I think the key to my success has been my willingness to listen, learn and push through uncomfortableness. Standup comedy is not easy, but when you go through many nights of terrible sets, you begin to have nights of good sets that fuel you to get better and better. I look forward to enjoying the ride of getting there. This is about the marathon.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Where do I start? I would take my good friends first to the Trap House followed by a trip to the coca cola museum, aquarium and CNN/centennial park just to get the obligatory touristy stuff out of the way. We would them embark on the following: Highland Bakery for breakfast, My Sisters Room for brunch, Breakers in Duluth for Korean bbq & Grindhouse for Burgers, Fat Matt’s and Fox Bros for BBQ. Some events I would partake in include hitting up MJQ, Johnny’s Hideaway and every club in midtown for dancing, Avalon and Ponce City market to shop and eat (rumi’s is a must), Village theater and Dads garage to catch improv, Punchline, Laughing Skull & Atlanta Comedy theater to catch standup, Buckhead Diner & Waffle house for late night hangs, Johnnys hideaway to dance with much older people, Eddie’s Attic and Red Clay Music Foundry to watch music. There are so many other places depending on how naughty those friend wanted to get but this would be a start.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, one of the best people in this city that deserves this shout out to is Comedian Hank Denson. He’s initiative of#PayTeachersMoreMoney started out as a little video about his role as a chaperone and its turned into an amazing story of passion that he has for educators across the country. Hank is a very accomplished comedian and has not only been an established staple in the Atlanta comedy scene, he has also broken ground as a viral sensation, a Television host and an all around mentor to many comics in the city. I soak up as much knowledge as possible when I’m in his presence. This sort of selfless giving is unprecedented in an industry where everything is a one-man show. Its inspiring to see someone not only give of themselves but also give their time to such a noble cause that affects more than themselves. To Hank and to all the teachers in the country teaching our future, a salute to your bravery.
