Meet Yasmine Keita | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasmine Keita and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yasmine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always had a sweet tooth and a love for baking. I remember when I was in middle school I used to bake for my family and friends. That encouragement fueled my passion for baking. But it wasn’t until 2018 when I finished college that I thought about turning this love into a business. The idea struck me when I realized I couldn’t find here in Atlanta one of my favorite cakes that I used to eat when I was in my home country. I was able to find some that were almost similar in taste, but it was not exactly what I wanted. Instead of searching endlessly, I decided to make them myself. Armed with passion and determination, I established my own baking business.
The journey from a baking enthusiast to a pro baker wasn’t without its challenges, but I was up for the adventure. I learned valuable lessons along the way, and the unwavering support and encouragement from my friends and family played a massive role in my success.
Today, my baking business not only lets me share my love for baking but also connects me with fellow sweet tooths. It all began with a childhood passion, a craving for nostalgia, and the joy of creating and sharing delicious treats.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Absolutely! Strawberry N’ Cream was born out of a deep love for baking. My specialty lies in crafting mostly French-inspired cakes and pastries. I draw inspiration from the rich tradition of French pastry, handcrafting each creation with the finest ingredients. It’s about taking my customers on a delicious journey, offering them a taste of France through my desserts. What sets us apart is our commitment to quality and consistency. Each creation, whether it’s a custom cake or an elegant dessert spread, is a work of art. We pay meticulous attention to detail to ensure that not only do our creations look visually stunning, but they also deliver an absolutely delightful taste experience.
Right now, I think what excites me the most is my plans to expand into catering services. This means that Strawberry N’ Cream will be a part of special events and gatherings, offering my sweet creations to a wider audience. Whether it’s birthdays, weddings, or corporate events, I want to bring the magic of my desserts to these occasions, making them even more memorable.
The journey of Strawberry N’ Cream is still ongoing but so far, it has been incredibly rewarding, but it was not without its fair share of challenges. The shift from baking as a hobby to baking for a broader audience brought new challenges, including managing larger quantities, ensuring consistency, and meeting customer expectations.
Overcoming these challenges required dedication and a willingness to learn. I knew that I needed to enhance my skills and refine my recipes to consistently deliver the best desserts. This led to hours of practice, experimenting with different techniques. I wasn’t discouraged by challenges; instead, I viewed them as opportunities to learn and grow.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned is “Practice makes perfect” and to be patient. I learned that the more I practiced, the better I became at my craft. With each batch of desserts, I refined my recipes, and gained a deeper understanding of the art of baking.
I am really excited about what the future has in store for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if it is whole week we will have plenty of things to do. On weekdays we will probably go at the Botanical Garden for cocktails in the garden, Piedmont Park for a picnic and enjoy the weather, candle making class and all my little favorites spots around the city to eat local food. For the weekend, dinner at Saint & Council and have drinks at JoJo’s Beloved on Friday night. Saturday will be for Afternoon Tea at St Regis and diner at Mission Market followed with game night at “Your 3rd Spot”. Sunday will be more relaxed; late brunch at Bazati and a little walk on the beltline and why not go to Ponce City market to play on the rooftop and enjoy the view while having some ice cream. All this in our ShopLoveCreed outfits, a boutique who has the best clothes in town!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I would like to thank! First and foremost, shoutout to my Lord, Jesus Christ, for this gift and continually opening doors for me. My family: my mom who has always been my number one supporter, also my dad who encouraged me. My sister for her love, unconditional support and presence, she was also my taster. Also, my brother for hyping me. And all my friends that have supported me and bought from me.
