Meet Yashica Davis | Mother, Lover of Fashion, Fitness Enthusiast, HR Executive, Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yashica Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yashica, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since my early 20’s, 30’s my life lacked balance. I lived a very structured life that was all about my children (Jayden, 23 and Justin, 17 respectively). I focused on making a living to sustain my children and myself. At the age of 42, I am realizing that balance is the most important form of self-care. I now force myself to make time for me and my mental health. Although I work extremely hard, my time freedom, self-care, and spiritual walk are most important for me.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a bit of a unicorn, lol. By professional training I am an HR Executive for an Orthopedic facility. Outside of that I am the owner/co-owner of 2-businesses; Park Avenue Shic (a swimsuit and retail clothing site), It’s Your Day Studio (an all-inclusive mobile event studio). I also run a fashion blog, “The Shic Blog ” that I have run for 7-years. I got where I am through extensive hard work, educational training, and plain determination. I never get stagnant. The difficult journey that catapulted me to this place is one of the reasons I kept pushing. I’ve learned that my timing is not God’s timing. Everything happens for a reason, just trust the process. I guess I would want the world to know, especially young women or single mothers in particular, that you can still achieve anything you want to accomplish. Never give up. I know that sounds cliche’, but it is so true and speaks to the testament of my journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is the home of so many gems and hidden treasures. If we’re doing a week of activities I would include the following: MLK Museum, Trap Museum, Woody’s Cheesesteaks, Hal’s Steak, Toast on Lennox, World of Coke, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Twisted Soul, and Rock Steady. If you know you know!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Although this topic was touched on in my previous feature, I’m so excited to elaborate on it a bit more. My sons, Jayden and Justin are my biggest inspirations and reasons for pushing myself to the absolute max. My mother and sister are the strongest women I know and I pull from their strength. I have a best friend whom I have known for 30+ years who is an amazing pillar in my life. I have other great friends who are also instrumental in my daily life. My mentors Kimberly Franklin, Dr. Kotina Hall, and Dr. Cathy Kennedy Harris and my Sorors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have been extremely instrumental in my journey.
