We had the good fortune of connecting with Yakira White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yakira, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business in the middle of the pandemic with my boyfriend who’s my business partner. It has been a very interesting journey including many ups and downs. Its all a learning process. My thought process behind starting my own business was to always be financially stable while providing a great service for other workers who needed a quick snack or drink to get them through the day. That’s when I came up with the idea of starting a vending machine business. It’s almost like a hobby, shopping for the snacks/drinks/etc. It keeps you on your toes and keeps your mind fresh with new ideas on how you can get customers to keep coming back to your machine.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Starting out in the healthcare field, I had no experience. I was so nervous and scared to talk to people. At the time, I was juggling two jobs, and going to college online. It was a hassle. It wasn’t easy at all, but when I got the hang of certain topics at work and perfecting my craft, customer service skills started coming to me like second nature. One of the things I would want the world to know about me is I have a go getter personality. I may be quiet, but when you’re quiet, you’re able to sit back and listen, observe, and take notes. In the real world, these qualities are helpful when it comes to creating your business and taking direction. It has helped me to grow in ways I couldn’t even imagine.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re visiting Atlanta, I would recommend going to the Atlanta Zoo, Stone Mountain, Calloway Gardens, or Forrest Hills Resort in Dahlonega, Ga, Forrest Hills is your home away from home and very peaceful., When it comes to food, I’m definitely a BIG foodie! I love Pig & Chik, Memphis BBQ, and Smash Burger just to name a few! You can also try this movie theatre near Midtown called IPIC, Lamb Chops brought right to your seat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to success and motivation, we always have someone in the background cheering us on or helping us to move forward. With that being said, I want to give a shout out to my parents who have made me become
the woman I am today and also a big part of giving me my “thick skin” when it comes to the business industry world.

I also would like to thank my sister. There was one time I couldn’t get to my vending machine location to refill it, but she came through and actually took me, even though her schedule was probably jammed packed. Last but not least, I would like to thank my boyfriend who didn’t hesitate once to push forward when I had the idea to pursue working for ourselves.
