We had the good fortune of connecting with YaKera Lawman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YaKera, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was me wanting to be more present. My previous position had me missing every holiday. Now, I get more time with my family.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a one stop shop for all things transportation. I run my own transportation company, and I dispatch. What sets me apart from others is that I don’t just dispatch, I specialize in compliance as well. When trucking companies come to me they get to just focus on driving. I also start trucking companies for my clients as well. It was not easy. I honestly had no idea what I was doing, and so many people told me the trucking industry was for men. I wasted a lot of money in the beginning by just doing trial and error, so I make sure to educate people on things I did wrong so they don’t make the same mistakes I made. I want the world to know not to give up, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely grab coffee from Black Coffee Atl There is also this raw vegan restaurant that I absolutely love, its called Tassili’s Raw Reality. I’m really more of the hosting cookouts in my backyard type. I love having family and friends over and just having a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband. He sees more in me than I see in myself and has always pushed me to be my greatest.
