We had the good fortune of connecting with Xiangyue Meng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xiangyue, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habit that has helped me the most is avoiding procrastination and completing tasks promptly. During my third year of undergraduate studies, I was simultaneously learning the content of three different majors. This required me to finish any learning tasks immediately without delay. It also demanded effective time management to achieve the goal of understanding and mastering the knowledge across these fields.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe I possess a multitude of interesting ideas and am willing to explore different styles and directions. This diversity is reflected in my work, which varies greatly in both style and content, making it engaging and full of variety.

Being an art director hasn’t been an easy journey for me. I had to navigate through the intense competition, with hundreds of applicants vying for a single position. It feels like a hard-earned achievement to have finally succeeded.

Looking back, I realize that many people will lend a helping hand along your path of growth. However, gaining experience and understanding your future direction ultimately relies on your own efforts. It’s crucial to be self-reliant and resilient. You learn a great deal through these challenges; it’s an inevitable part of the journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would choose Beijing, China as the destination. I would take my friends to the ancient Forbidden City in Beijing, allowing them to experience the most traditional and authentic Beijing culture, such as the local snacks and everyday life in the hutongs. Beijing boasts numerous historical sites, including the Great Wall, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, and Beihai Park, each representing the immense wisdom and effort of ancient Chinese people.

I believe that the culture of a city or region is the most fascinating and exciting aspect. Every place has its unique cultural history, distinct lifestyle, language, cuisine, architecture, and historical stories. Exploring these differences is what makes traveling so enriching and memorable.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In this regard, I want to express my gratitude to my mother, which might not be a common response for any achievement, but she indeed played a significant role in my life. From my childhood to adulthood, she took me on journeys to many countries around the world. Together, we explored fascinating places, indulged in diverse cuisines, and engaged in conversations with people from different cultures and backgrounds. During many crucial moments in my life, she would earnestly analyze situations and support my decisions. In times of confusion, she patiently answered my questions and shared interesting anecdotes.

Our relationship is not just that of a mother and daughter; we are friends, the best kind of friends. We support each other, help unravel mysteries, find joy in each other’s happiness, and strive together through life’s challenges.
