We had the good fortune of connecting with Xavian Tate and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xavian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is an excellent question. Originally, I never thought about becoming an entrepreneur. My pastor had sowed the seed. I became an entrepreneur in 2019 starting in the travel industry. Then when the pandemic hit, I found myself in the financial industry all while still studying Mental Health Psychology. So, I thought to myself how can I tie all my business endeavors into one, and that is when I decided to call it Light of the World Intl. Corporation. Think of it as a mental health one stop shop and I want to create career opportunities for individuals who are also interested in the mental health field.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Mental Health and Higher Education Professional.  I graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health Psychology and an Interdisciplinary minor in S.T.E.A.M. Education. My work revolves heavily around mental health, and my social justice is education. What makes me stand out is that my background allows me to integrate the gap between the STEM and Mental Health industries. I have numerous mental health certifications and have taught and volunteered in various educational settings. Growing up, I was always interested in education because I enjoyed learning. I am referred to as a First Generation Professional because I am the first in my family to possess a bachelor’s degree. The journey was not easy. Along the way, I dealt with identity issues, imposter syndrome, financial and home difficulties, and other challenges. The difficulties shaped me. It was eye-opening to realize that there are others out there going through the same difficulties I did. My faith in God and desire to help others kept me going. “Painful Processes Create Pretty Pictures,” is one of the most important life lessons I’ve learned. This means that to get to where we need to go, we must endure pain; however, pain is only temporary, and during our suffering, we birth something beautiful, a pretty picture. I want the world to know that I am here to Light Your World!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is exciting! First, we would eat at Ruby Sunshine for breakfast or brunch. The breakfast food is delicious. The beignets hit just right. For activities, we would go to Birmingham Museum of Art. There are various art forms limited exhibits. My favorite is the renaissance era. We would then go to the Citywalk, the newest skatepark to skate and hang around. Next, we would go to Mcwane Center because there are different stem activities to explore. For Dinner, we would go to Dales’ Southern Grill. Dales’ customer service is off the charts and the manager and staff are on point. For the nightlife, we will go to Tin Roof. We can see the entire city from the rooftop and nice atmosphere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to God for carrying me through, my family for inspiration and having the entrepreneurship gene run in our family, my grandma Mary (R.I.P.) for telling me to keep dreaming and imagining, my spiritual parents for covering me and planting the seed, and my teammates for helping my business vision come to life and thrive.
