We had the good fortune of connecting with William Teel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but needed the idea and the push to step out on faith. I started with a gift I bought my wife — a beginners level photography camera, just for fun, doing little free projects like headshots for people to learn and understand how photography works. I realized as I got deeper in learning the camera and studying that I wanted more and eventually started putting my money where my mouth was. Eventually I decided to go ahead and make it an official business and the more I invested into the company, the more serious I took the idea of it being the long game instead of a seasonal interest.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I feel sets me apart is my professionalism and focus on lighting and color for my shoots. I really want my models or clients to feel like they are getting an experience. For the female models, I want them to feel comfortable during their shoot and I like to communicate often with my clients as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it’s a friend or family members first time visiting or haven’t been here in a while I would take them to little five points, and areas with nice graffiti art or historic sites like at Castleberry Hill, and some Atlanta restaurants like Slutty Vegan, Hattie B’s, West Egg Cafe. I’d take them downtown to see some black history sites like the MLK Center, the Atlanta University Center with the Black colleges and to some of the sports stadiums like where the Hawks, Falcons and Braves play.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my wife who is a business owner and property investor, Jeryl Teel. She encouraged and invested in my dream for entrepreneurship and to go all in with photography and all the learning, time and work it took to get to this point.
