We had the good fortune of connecting with William Motton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from Aliquippa Pennsylvania a small town North West of Pittsburgh. My Grandfather Jessie Wilkins owned a small neighborhood store that I worked in starting at the age of 9. I would go into the store and ask my Grandad for a candy bar and he would make me work the cash register for an hour to pay for the candy bar. This taught me two things nothing is free and how important math is! Math was and is my strongest subject. After my Grandfather passed my mom took over the store and I worked in the store up until I was 19. Watching and working with them taught me how hard you have to work if you own your own business!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m President of 5TH & J Cabinetry a small kitchen and bathroom remodeling company where I ware a lot of hats, sales rep, designer, cabinet maker, trainer, and installer. It is rare in the kitchen and bath industry that someone possesses all of these skills in one body. I think this is what sets me apart from the rest! The thing that I’m most proud of and that gives me joy is training someone and six months to a year later watching them have the skills to better provide for themselves and their families! The other thing that gives me joy is watching the expression on my customers faces when I complete their project!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to show a friend a good time in Atlanta. I would take them to the Georgia Aquarium, the King center, we would eat some barbecue from Willie Jewels old school barbecue, Marietta Fish Market, and numerous steak and seafood restaurants like STX steakhouse and Boiled seafood restaurant.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout Cabinet World who gave me an opportunity to work in there company as a countertop fabricator and an installer helper. I would also like to shoutout Mike Lucci who trained and taught me most of the skills I have today! A big Shoutout to my wife Veda Motton who puts up with all the long hours that I work, and keeps our household going!
