We had the good fortune of connecting with William Boston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my business comes down to consistency. Consistency is key, being able to stay consistent even when things aren’t looking their best. If you can stay consistent through the slow seasons and find different ways to still be effective in business, it will take you a long ways and keep your business around for a long time.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the creator of William Boston Apparel, which is a luxury street wear brand that started in my freshmen year of college in 2002 with hand painted T-shirts. Over the years we gradually transitioned from the hand painted shirts to a full clothing brand, with not only apparel, but footwear as well.
What set my brand apart from others is it’s originality. We really focus on being authentic and original with all of our designs, we don’t follow the trends, we create our own lane and that’s what sets us apart from others.
I’m most proud about our longevity in the game. Always being ahead of the curve, has kept the brand around for years, it’s allowed WBA to be sold in several retails stores through out the United States, we gained international attention with publications in British GQ magazine, been featured in several fashion shows and pop up shops and many other accolades. So I’m most proud about our longevity and ability to stay creative.
I’ve been blessed to get to where I’m at today in business by staying consistent in the process. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been well worth it. Starting this brand has helped me realize how much ambition I truly have in me. That willingness to succeed, no matter what the struggle may bring. Keeping God first, believing in myself and betting on myself have allowed me and my business to overcome many obstacles and challenges.
The lessons I learned along the way, is that you have to stay creative and innovative. You have to think further ahead, you need to be tech savvy and ahead of the curve. Because being ahead of the curve allows you to adjust easily versus trying to play catch up when things are changing around you.
I want the world to know that we push a mission to continue to fight, even in the face of adversity. The name of the brand is William Boston Apparel. But we abbreviated it down to WLMB$TN which is short for William Boston, we just took all of the vowels out of the name, but what it really stands for is “When Life Misleads Be Strong Through Negativity” that’s what WLMB$TN really means. We want people to not give up on themselves and to push through all adversity and negativity. We push a message of never giving up. That’s what I want the world to take from this brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question, I’m currently living in Jacksonville, Fl. The largest city land wise in the state of Florida. There’s several things to do here, and a lot of water activities as well. So if I had a friend coming for the weekend, we would probably start out by visiting some room top bars and restaurants, then we could get into some water activity like jet ski’s, or a party boat ride. Head down to Saint Augustine and hit up the conch house, which is an indoor out door day party on the water, then possibly follow that up with a Jaguars Football game.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone who’s a supporter or customer of my brand deserves a shoutout/credit in the success of it, because with out them there would be no William Boston Apparel. I’m thankful for the many years of support from each and every person that has ever bought a piece of my clothing, or just took the time to tell someone else about my brand. Shout out to the true supporters of William Boston Apparel.
