We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Nzenwa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is my Faith in God. If it wasn’t for God or my Faith in Him, I would’ve never somehow ended up being a Makeup Artist and I would’ve gave up a while ago. If it wasn’t for God to lead me to listen to a particular sermon I wouldn’t have accomplished everything I have accomplished this year alone. I say my prayers to God and I let Him direct me to every which way He knows I will excel in and He hasn’t failed me yet and never will.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Soft Glam Specialist, therefore a lot of makeup isn’t needed to achieve a beautiful glam. My makeup artistry is all about enhancing beautiful features of every client that sits in my chair. I love what I call “UK girl makeup” UK girl makeup tends to be soft but flawless. I’m from the DC, MD, VA area where some people don’t usually like or do soft glams. What excites me most about my art is after achieving a soft flawless glam for my clients I receive feedback like “OMG! I look like the UK girls!” “I love my makeup.” Some clients even shed a couple of tears. And when my clients spouse, boyfriends, brothers, uncles etc. compliment my work ethic on their significant other because everyone knows most men do not like makeup…especially birthday makeup. I got where I am today professionally because of those compliments, they keep me going. It wasn’t easy because I struggled with consistency for the first 2.5 years of doing makeup but when I realized that I have a God given talent—I asked myself “why not use this talent? God gave it to you for a purpose.” Ever since I made a vow to be consistent in this God given purpose April 2023, God has shown His will in my business over these last months alone and we are just getting started! I cannot wait to live in the plan God has for my business in 2024 and everything else I have in the works on the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would most definitely start out at a fine dining restaurant. I truly enjoy getting dolled up, taking pictures and enjoying dinner at a 5 star restaurant over a good ole lemon drop martini (or 3). My favorite restaurants currently are The Bygone, Eddie V’s and Truluck’s. I also love to do fun activities like karaoke at Live K DC, Rage Rooms, amusement parks etc. to channel the younger me. I would love to go to Disney World one day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give my sisters Tiffany and Britney a special shoutout. They never miss any chance to support me any way possible—from reposting, commenting, liking, telling their friends to book with me, even purchasing any merchandise I sell. They are always so helpful helping me load my car when traveling to clients, cleaning my makeup brushes etc. My siblings remind me of how talented I am anytime I feel discouraged a bit, they literally lift me up and push me to keep going. My VIP Deluxe Doll Roselyn and all of my loyal clients that receive my services multiple times a year are always valued and appreciated. All of my friends and family that support me the best they can and everyone that mentions my name and my business in rooms I am not in.
