We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Edmonds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always knew from a young age I wanted to pursue a career in the arts. I was a very shy child and having opportunities to express myself and be creative has helped grow my confidence and is a perfect way for me to tell stories that I feel are powerful and need to be heard. I hope through my career I can inspire other young artists to create pieces they are passionate about.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started acting and dancing at church when I was very young. I was fortunate enough to have many opportunities through my church to learn more about performing arts and teaching. The biggest challenge I faced when training as an artist was the financial commitment. I couldn’t afford to finish college after four years of hard work and education in theatre. I was devastated and felt like a failure. I have learned that I am not defined by the title I do or do not have. I am not defined as an artist by my accomplishments. I feel my purpose as an artist is simply to inspire others to find the creativity in themselves and use it for good.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’m fairly new to the city but If it’s their first time in Atlanta I would probably have dinner at a staple like The Sun Dial to get a good view of the city or No Mas! Cantina. I always stop by Andy’s frozen custard on the way home for some dessert.

On a Saturday morning I’d go to Delbar’s for brunch and walking around farmers market.

For an afternoon pick me up, Valor coffee is a great coffee shop located in Alpharetta

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father has always been my biggest supporter. He has sacrificed so much for me to follow my dreams and make them a reality. I am forever grateful for his support and encouragement in my career.
