We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Oliver and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
In my life, CALCULATED risk taking has always been a key to my success. It’s quite ironic because when I think about my personality I would never label myself as a “risk taker”, but looking over my life I have always done things where I couldn’t necessarily see the end, but trusted my gut. From becoming pregnant my junior year of college on a full academic scholarship and navigating motherhood while pursing my nursing degree… to moving to Atlanta with no family and two friends on a whim…to going on a blind date with a man which eventually turned into my husband…to quitting my full time nursing career to become a full time permanent makeup artist. I enjoy being comfortable and having consistency in my life, but most of my life’s treasures came from taking a leap of faith.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a permanent makeup artist specializing in ombré powder brows. This is a form of tattooing which mimics filled in eyebrows/makeup and gives clients more of their time back by not having to struggle with their eyebrow routine everyday. What sets me apart from other artists is that I am also a registered nurse (for over 10 years). I use my healthcare background to ensure not only that my clients eyebrow are beautiful, but executed in the cleanest and safest way possible. This journey has not been easy, as I started my business in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, with 3 children, one of which was a newborn, a husband and a full time nursing job. Getting my business off the ground and dedicating the time to my artistry to grow was not an easy feat but with the support of my husband and family I was able to be a nurse during the week, and a brow slayer on the weekends. This past July I quit my nursing job to pursue permanent makeup full time and it has been an exhilarating and anxiety ridden experience. But I welcome it with open arms because I want to show my children that its never too late to pivot, and that whatever you put your mind to and work your butt off for, you can achieve! I’ve also noticed that this hobby turned passion makes me a happier and better person/wife/mom. Making women/men feel beautiful and confident again with a brow makeover is instantly gratifying for me and fulfills my passion to serve others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to visit in Atlanta is Ponce City Market/ Sky line Park. There’s so many restaurants and shopping options, plus games, music and drinks on the roof top. Thai food is one of my favorites so we would swing by “Thai Sushi” in East Atlanta Village. They have sushi and drink specials during the week and it’s a nice strip to walk and talk along. For dessert one night we would have to stop at “Sammy Cheezecake” for some of the best red velvet cheesecake I’ve ever had. And lastly we would stop by Perimeter mall for some shopping.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No man is a island. I have been able to accomplish and sustain everything I have from my very strong family/community unit. Firstly my husband has been so supportive and encouraging throughout this entrepreneurial journey. Even when I doubted myself he’s always noticed my potential and encouraged me to keep going. I also have a group of very intelligent and successful friends who I am always learning from and are constantly speaking life into me. My friend group is actually how I discovered the idea of becoming a permanent makeup artist. My family, especially my mother and brother who are often the first people that I call when I’m having a hard day, who always know how to impart wisdom, pray over me, and get me back together.
