We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up in a traditional fine arts environment, I knew that I somehow had a strong connection with Art. As a kid, I loved to pretend to use any furniture or objects around me while I was playing with my Barbie dolls and imagining different themes and storylines. It was my imagination-driven play that built my creativity, and I knew what I wanted to do at an early age.

I think Art is a bridge to connect emotions between human beings. It is a global language, knowledge, and an opportunity for people to start a conversation with each other and share some opinions on different values. To me, being an artist and working in a creative career let me learn more from others and be able to keep my creativity flowing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would describe my art as my thoughts in my own creative world. I would think my art is unique with my own style because I often let my imagination-driven guide my creativity flow without thinking too much. I love focusing on concept development, which is storytelling. We often find inspiration from what is around us, the cultural influence, books we read, historical events, the films we watch, or the pop culture we grew up with. I am no exception, my inspiration came from anything I watched, heard, or experienced.

I started out as a traditional fine artist and used dry mediums to express my creativity, such as pencil, ink, and paper before I started knowing digital. With the high-speed technology progress, I came across learning different digital software for my art and for my career needs. It wasn’t easy, learning modern technology and new software is a different skill set, rather than you draw on paper as you think directly. I spent countless times and effort learning and practicing overcoming the challenges. Patience is the biggest lesson I learned along the way, as well as being able to see the long-term goal, and being humble is also key for me to overcome difficulties. I value personal growth and professionalism.

I would like others to know me as a passionate artist, and a learner, who loves to explore any possibilities with art and appreciation. I love to connect with people and learn from each other.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think I would take my best friend to the Ponce City Market and the Belt Line, Krog Street, to check out some cute places.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother – Grace, is my biggest support and love in life. She saw my potential and talent in Art at an early age and supported me with unconditional love. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.
