We had the good fortune of connecting with Wayne Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wayne, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Columbus Ga. My creative background was sparked by the creatives around me. Musically, my uncle Mike was my initial inspiration. He was the first person I knew who had a beat machine. Having something so accessible and tangible was the reason I fell in love with producing. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have artist in my family as well, so I grew up seeing them paint or draw. They would be the earliest inspiration for my clothing brand and graphic design

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey to where I am today is a long one. At this point, I am most proud of starting my record label Free Coast Records llc. In August of 2019, I searched online for creatives from all fields. After the first two months, I had found around six producers and four recording artist. These creatives were ranging from the U.S., Canada, and the UK. For a year we operated as a unit, collaborating on multiple projects. Today Free Coast has slimmed down the official roster but we still work closely with the original creatives. In 2021 we relaunched as an official licensed company, named Wayman Petty as President and signed 2 recording artist (Mazimiyaki from New York and Tsnazzy from Baltimore). Some of the challenges we faced were involving too many people prematurely in the beginning. The lesson learned was that everyone isn’t meant to see your vision.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All of my friends are concert goers, so we would probably plan for the visit to be around a concert going on that week. The majority enjoy cigar bars so we would hit up 18th Amendment in Columbus GA. I would lastly plan a studio visit or sit in with a local podcast here in the city to wrap up the visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out Mazimiyaki aka Shannon Goulbourne
