Meet Warlene Rene | Fashion designer & Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Warlene Rene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Warlene, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I use to work for a bridal salon for 15 years, while I was financially stable doing that work, I realized I could do the same for myself and pay myself more money. I also wanted more control over the styling orocess with my clients. Under an establishment there are always formalities that can be inconvenient to a crestive person.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a creative I love problem solving and coming up with creative ways to do things. For some reason, I usually end up with last minute brides, who have a hard time finding people who can do custom. I feel like that has been my niche, at first it was exhausting because I alwsys had to save a dress that was ruined from a prior alteration, or I was creating something from scratch to make an outfit more appealing. Over time I looked at it from another angle and it helped me niche my craft. I was able to market myself to people needing custom or an emergency fix. This also taught me how to think quick and have good time management. I’ve learned that you really have to tell yourself that you can handle challenges, and trust that you are capable. Also, some of your best work and ideas are going to come from situations that are uncomfortable. You have to trust the process if your following your dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely start our day off with Lattes, I love to take walks, so we’d probably go to a downtown area where we could experience nature, eat good food and shop all in one. We’d also have to visits museum, I find it opens up such good conversations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There were a group of very experienced seamstresses who took me under their wing when I first started sewing bridal. They were patient with me and showed me time management skills and the importance of clean work. I’m so glad they were the first interactions in my journey because I’ve been in work environments since that did gate keep.
