We had the good fortune of connecting with Wanda White and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wanda, how do you think about risk?
I think risks are necessary. Without them, you will always wonder what if. Taking a risk can be scary but so can not taking it. I believe with risk comes growth and opportunities. Depending on the level of importance, determines how big the risk. If you don’t care about it, the risk won’t matter but if it’s important to you, the risk will carry more weight. If you have a dream or a goal, it’s not going to magically happen, you have to work for it. And working at it means taking risks.
We take risks in everything we do, from getting in the car to eating out to walking across the street. So I had to ask myself “Why not take a risk for something that can bless others?” For me, writing my book was taking a risk. I was scared. I felt vulnerable. Definitely uncharted territory. What if I fail? What if no one likes it? I had to remind myself that it was worth the risk. I had to try. Taking risks has continued to shape me into who I am and who I am becoming. Risks constantly pull me out of my comfort zone and challenge me. If I don’t ever cross the street, I will never experience what’s on the other side. No risk, no reward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Bookkeeper, an author, and a Certified Life Coach. Bookkeeping is what I do to keep the lights on. I’ve been in finance since I was in high school so that’s a comfort zone for me. My children are my world. When they were growing up, I had no time for myself because it was all about them. I never gave having my own business a second thought. Even after they were grown and on their own I didn’t consider it. I never saw that as something for me. But, something happened as I approached 50. I began to think about legacy and what I wanted out of life for myself. I thought about writing a book but I dismissed it several times. I had several people to tell me I should be a life coach and I dismissed that too but now that 50 was fastly approaching and Covid was on the rise, I thought, why not. Everything was shifting and if I was going to take a leap, the time was here. So, I started. It was not easy for me. My struggle was more internal. I never felt I had what it took. I never had a model or formula to follow. I felt I was out here just taking stabs in the dark. Then one day my daughter was listening to a podcast and she heard this lady and I should listen to her. I did and I reached out and she helped me through the process. What I’ve learned is I don’t know everything and it’s ok to ask for help. I’ve learned that it is not too late to start. I’ve learned that what God has for me is for me and I don’t have to be intimidated by someone’s journey. What I want people to know about me is I believe with God’s help, we can all achieve our goals. What I want people to know about my story is everything I needed is already in me and everything they need is already in them too. I’m in their corner, I’m here to help them and support them to succeed in every area of their life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t live in the city so I’m not a resident expert yet. I would love some recommendations too lol.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my story to my daughter Kayla. She has been my biggest cheerleader since I began this journey. When I mentioned writing a book, she jumped in to help and she has been helping every since. She is the reason I’m still on this journey if I’m being honest. Kayla supports me and encourages me, helps me with everything, and pushes me to keep going. She believes in me and for her love and support, I am forever thankful.
