We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, what’s your definition for success?
Success is measured by how you feel about whatever task or goal you set out to complete. If you feel as though you have given your 100 percent, that is the best you can do. It doesn’t matter how anyone responds as long as you feel good about it at the end of the day than it was a successful venture. So, I guess you can say I measure it on an effort scale.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a chef and I love creating art on a plate. I believe we eat with our eyes, so presentation is absolutely the most important thing. It wasn’t easy breaking into this Male dominated industry by far. I’ve had to overcome so much ego to say the least with this job. If there is one thing it has taught me it was persistence, and how far you could go if you really bet on yourself. There were a lot of days I felt defeated but, I would listen to my motivational videos right before I walked into work and breathe. Trouble doesn’t last always; I want the world to know that nothing worthwhile in life comes easy but if you stick to what you know and never let the doubt creep in then you can go the distance in anything. This is what my brand is all about, inspiring the youth because they are the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m all about the relaxation scene these days so I would definitely tour the botanical Gardens that’s a must. We would have to catch Breakfast At Barneys for a little brunch. We would do a little shopping at Lennox mall for sure. We would catch a show at the fox theatre, nothing better than live entertainment. We would hit the main event with the kids to play some games. Lastly, I would want to catch some seafood at Pappadeaux’s.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mom, Stranda James because for as long as I can remember she has had a hand in making sure I stick with my writing. I want to also thank my children, Kai Annalee, August and Cadence for being the driving force to keep me motivated to do more.
