We had the good fortune of connecting with Victora Bianca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Victora, what do you want your legacy to be?
I hope to be remembered as a gracious, yet graceful woman who always kept her word & embodied the true definition of integrity. I made a name for myself. I want to be remembered for my good character & authenticity in the creative industry. I wish to be respected as a brilliant & timeless poet who positively impacted urban communities everywhere. I want Hood Healing Poetry’s legacy to be known around the world for welcoming urban creatives into a safe space that they can feel heard & seen; I want them to hold Hood Healing Poetry close to their hearts forever & let their friends & family know how much Hood Healing Poetry means to them too. I want to be known as a mogul. Now, of course I want people to remember all of the good things I accomplished. However, I would also like for everyone to remember all the battles I endured to get here & how they shaped me into a better woman. It took a lot darkness to become this bright light for others. That is so important to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am The Hood Phenomenon. I’m a confessional poet. I write & perform poetry about real life topics like body insecurities, motherhood, police brutality, addiction & your everyday hood politics. I am the curator & host of Atlanta’s hottest showcase, Hood Healing Poetry. What sets me apart from the others is the authenticity of the creatives that I choose to showcase at my events. Every poet, comedian, dancer & musician that has blessed Hood Healing Poetry’s stage has left a memorable impression on my heart & has inspired me on my creative journey & that is what fulfills me the most about being a curator & host. I love that people are genuinely drawn to Hood Healing Poetry & how we embody the message of “Healing The Hood One Poem At A Time.”

I am most proud of my most recent event that I curated and hosted on November 5, 2023. It was my 9th event & my biggest event thus far! I’d also like to congratulate myself on how far I’ve came as a poet, performer & host. I feel like I only get better with time & that shows through the production of each of my events. What I am most excited about is Hood Healing Poetry Event #10 which will be at the beginning of 2024. This event will be my 3 Year Anniversary of being a thriving black owned business that showcases urban, authentic talent in Atlanta, GA. Overall, I am looking forward to Hood Healing Poetry’s community & audience growing. I would love to gain more partnerships with other creatives. I already have some special projects in the works that I can’t wait for everyone to enjoy in 2024 so stay tuned.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The best spot to be on any day of the week is The Bookstore Gallery near the Mercedes Benz stadium. Hands down! I love this hidden gem in Atlanta because they have something for everyone to have a true “elevated experience.” From the time you walk in you are welcomed by Kyle, Tokyo, Malcolm or AunTea & before you leave you’re already planning your visit to come back! The Bookstore Gallery is an art gallery & home of Hood Healing Poetry events. They partner with other creatives to bring people’s events to life. Check them out when you’re in Atlanta for an elevated experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, I feel like the ghetto deserves some credit for who I am & what I represent. A little cliche, but the ghetto made me who I am today. My mantra: I love the hood, & the hood loves me! I feel like my raw, urban poets deserve some more recognition so I feel an obligation to showcase their talents to the world. A lot of times we are overlooked in the creative industry when we are the most authentic creators if we’re being honest. Fortunately, I’ve changed that for us! Hood Healing Poetry was solely created for fearless, raw, authentic hood creatives. Without the hood, there probably wouldn’t be a “Hood Phenomenon.” So, this Shoutout series is dedicated to the ghetto. I’m forever #GRATEFUL4DAGHETTO, which was the name of my last event that I curated in November 2023. I dedicated my 9th event to showing endless love & respect to the same demographic of people that I’m loved & respected by so here’s another thank you from me to the hood.
