We had the good fortune of connecting with Victor Kamanga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was honestly because I couldn’t see myself following the traditional route of graduating college and getting a job. Don’t get me wrong, the traditional route was heavily pushed on me growing up because both of my parents are not only teachers but immigrants from Kenya. Unlike most individuals though, I’ve always perceived school as just one route to success and as a backup plan in case my business ventures failed.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a video production company known as Everything Media. It’s currently our second year in business and we have a team of 3 which consists of video editors and videographers. Everything Media stands by Quality First! In this new digital age, quality video is extremely important and we aim to deliver nothing less. We mainly work with small business owners, but also serve individuals and corporate companies who need a video or consistent content. What’s unique about Everything Media, is not only are we strategically producing the videos for our clients, but we also help them distribute the video or videos on their social media platforms. The growth this year has been absolutely amazing! In fact, we’re projected to double in revenue. With that said, the journey was definitely not easy. During the first year in business, I practically did everything from acquiring clients to shooting and editing the content; this was fun at first until I experienced burnout because I was overworking myself. What I have learned so far as a business owner, is to always think of ways you can remove yourself from doing everything. The goal as an owner is to eventually focus on what you’re good at and build a team plus systems that can handle the wrest. If you want to enjoy the true flexibility of a business owner, your business needs to be able to generate revenue without you being there. That’s why my main goal right now in business is to build a solid team and systems around them that can generate passive income for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are a few spots in the city I enjoy hanging out or grabbing content for my channel. Jackson Street Bridge & Piedmont Park have a really great view of the entire city and it’s where I like to go take pictures or videos. Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks is one of my favorite spots, definitely has one of the best Philly cheesesteaks in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to YouTube. My family relocated halfway through my freshman year and it was hard adjusting to my new school. Instead of rebuilding my social life or enrolling in extracurricular activities, I decided to lock myself in my bedroom and share my passion for technology on YouTube. What started as a hobby in 2014, has materialized into 40K subscribers. Through my channel, I’ve had the opportunity to build relationships with some of the largest manufacturers like Google, Toyota, and Amazon. It’s also where I learned to professionally edit and shoot videos which motivated me to start my own video production company, Everything Media, LLC.
