Meet Vernessa Spratley | Chef & Pastry Chef

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vernessa Spratley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vernessa, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would first say that I stay humble. Being humble has had my name in places I never dreamed of. I have cooked and baked for so many people that I never thought of being around. Staying humble and not getting big headed and cocky about my work is my key for success. I don’t broadcast who I do things for and that has made me do some great things.
The second biggest factor in my success is that I have an amazing support system. My husband, Christopher is my number one supporter of all my dreams. Anytime I have something I want to do he supports me without question. I also have a core circle of friends we support each other and listen to our business ideas. I can always depend on these specific people to push me to be better than I was the day before. I love that we support each other and we aren’t in competition.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of how hard I work. My long days and long nights are paying off. I am busy as ever. My business is flourishing. As I said previously, I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am if it wasn’t for my husband. His love and support is unmatched. Was this easy, HECK NO! I have worked for well below my worth. I have cried and stayed at jobs that I absolutely hated. I persevered and I didnt let anyone get me to a point where I walked away. I overcame the challenges by lots of prayer and grinding. Never settling for less than what I deserve. The best lesson I have learned is to never stop learning! I always think that I can learn something from someone. No matter how small or big it is.
I want the world to know that I am coming! My goal is to be a household name. I want to get everything that is promised to me!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first spot I would take someone visiting me would have to be Trap City Cafe! This spot is owned by Atlanta Legend Rapper and Mogul TIP. I would go to this spot first because the food is absolutely delicious. The vibe is amazing. You cant go wrong with this place. I would be here much more often if I lived closer. Another favorite place I have is Red Crawfish. This. restaurant is located closer to my house so I order quite often from here. I absolutely LOVE their seafood boils and their wings are my absolute favorite. All of their wings are amazing and always fresh, my favorite flavor is lemon pepper.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. Being in such a demanding industry is hard. This can cause so many problems if you do not have a system or supportive partner. My husband is the reason I am able to do all that I do. I leave very early every morning before our children wake up for school. He gets up with me to see me off every morning. He never complains. He gets all three of them off to school and picks them up as well. Makes sure that they get to any after school activities also he makes sure they complete their homework. Some nights, he has to make dinner too. One of our children has Autism & ADHD, he has multiple therapy sessions every week. My husband is so amazing, so this shout out is for him!
