We had the good fortune of connecting with Vannessa Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vannessa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a child starting at the age of 10 I would watch my older cousin do hair. It instantly because something that I was interested in learning more of by the time I was 16 I was doing my friends and family hair. It was an easy way to make some extra money. Years later my older cousin who I watch braid hair for years passed then it turn from making extra money on the side to my passion.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others would be that I actually take pride in my work. I take pride in everything I do. I’m always looking for ways to expand and grow. I always keep an open mind because there is always room to grow and improvement. I remind humble throughout all my accomplishments. I’ve had amazing support that pushed me to where I am today. Was it easy ? No, but if I had to do it all over again I would. I’ve always had a vision in mind so no matter how hard things got I kept my head up and I kept pushing because at the end it would all be worth it. In this line of business it’s easy to get discouraged because there are so many people in this industry but something about your work will always stand out whether it’s timing , neatness or creativity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Breakfast would be First Watch. BB Kings for drinks. Spa at the Renaissance. Dinner at Charles Anthony. We would take a ride on the Harriott II and a scroll through the River Front Park

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to give credit to my clients because they keep me motivated by bring me new ideas and new trends for always giving me that extra push that I need. I would like to also recognize Teliesha Williams for making me follow my career , dreams, and passion. She motivates me to always become a better me. She pushes me beyond my limits. She takes so much pride in my business and it’s so amazing to have someone like her in your corner that you can always count on to be there in your time of need. Last but not least Elizabeth Dei for entering me in Shout Out.
