We had the good fortune of connecting with Valerie Mcpherson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valerie, what do you attribute your success to?
Content creating is a roller coaster, one month your inbox can be filled with opportunities and dream campaigns and then the next month, it can be crickets!
The biggest factor I keep in mind is the WHY . I started content creating because I had a huge passion for showcasing pieces on my body type, skin tone and overall appearance .
While I might not fit the typical “content creator” or “influencer” “look” I believe my content drives change even if it’s just for one person.
When you look up the soft girl aesthetic or romantic aesthetic it often times lacks diversity, in terms of race and body type. So , I wanted to contribute to the space that is changing the results page.
When my likes or views are down , I have to remind myself of the why.
My content tells stories and captures a unique beauty I strive for more people to see. And at the end of the day -the best message I can receive is that I helped someone feel confident enough to wear the dress, be extra and be loud!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my take and look on content. I love finding all the romantic and hidden gems in Georgia. There are so many museums, gardens and estates out there and I love taking a day to visit these places all while embracing that soft girl look!
Most of the pieces I own come from women owned brands and small businesses -which is important to me.
I am most proud of my confidence that I’ve gained through being in front of the camera over the years. I was once the person who hated having my picture taken and would pick apart every little detail of myself in a photo , to the point were I would use tool to shrink myself.
Now, I adore my appearance and never touch those harmful shrinking tools!
Content creating wasn’t/ isn’t easy. I experience burn out every now and then but it helps to go on a walk and become re-inspired by my fellow content creators in this space!
The biggest piece of advice I received was “JUST KEEP POSTING”. This has truly helped me grow and reach the right community these past three years. I have been lucky enough to meet so many of my fellow creators from all over the US and Canada!
What I want the world to know about my brand is that it is a trustworthy space and open to all!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Candler Hotel!
This is by far the most charming hotel in Atlanta. I love going to By George on Sunday mornings for brunch. The atmosphere is charming, romantic and elegant. There truly isn’t any where else like The Candler. Not to mention the amazing staff that greets you.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Alondra Flores!
She is a gem! She has inspired me so much and has even been there for me when my account was hacked! Her styling and her story are truly inspiring. I can confidently say she is that fun and sweet person you see online and deserves this platform.
