We had the good fortune of connecting with Uniquica Askew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Uniquica, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My inclination toward an artistic vocation was not a deliberate choice but a manifestation of innate proclivities. From a young age, I discerned a distinctive calling by God. While my contemporaries harbored aspirations of legal or medical professions, I found myself captivated by a creative essence that set me apart. The realms of modeling, glamour, and theater beckoned since the tender age of three, imprinting upon me a resolute desire to contribute to the tapestry of the entertainment industry.
Growing up in Milwaukee, WI, a city not renowned as the epicenter of entertainment, I was presented with formidable challenges. However, my unwavering faith in God assured me that a path would be created for me. With each stride towards realizing my aspirations, providence unfurls new avenues, and in this journey, I find gratitude for the unfolding narrative. These modest triumphs serve as the catalyst for my perseverance, cognizant that a tapestry of greater achievements lies ahead on this erudite expedition. I look forward to the doors the God will continuously open as I tap in to my artistic avenues.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s the God-fidence for me! My faith in God is what sets me apart. Some people would give up after so much rejection or after reaching a certain age. I’m in my thirties and I’m thriving. God is doing a work in me and I refuse to give up on the gifting that He has blessed me with. I am most proud of the fact that I have not given up on myself. God and my determination has gotten me to where I am today. I’m most proud of my involvement in Tyler Perry’s 6888 movie, Terror Lake Drive S3, my modeling boutique feature with Boutique Amore and so much more. I’m in awe of all my accomplishments and I pray that many more opportunities are ahead.
My journey has not been the easiest, there have definitely been moments when I wanted to give up, but God continues to remind me of what’s been in my heart. That being said I pray and surrender my plans to God. I allow Him to do what He does best! My journey has taught me that your time is your time and yes you will face adversity. The key is to allow challenging times to grow you, and not being afraid to take a step back to re-strategize. Overall, just don’t give up on you!
If you all don’t remember anything else, remember that God is real and He cares about the desires of your heart, so don’t give up on your dreams!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a great question. I’m not going to lie, I’m more of a home body, but if I was hanging with my best friend we would definitely get dressed up pretty and hit up some nice restaurants. I love me some food. I really enjoyed Frost Bistro.
We would definitely have to treat ourselves to a spa day. Maybe hit up the Atlanta Aquarium. I also love sports so depending on the season we could hit up a basketball, baseball or football game. I’m pretty chill but I do enjoy exploring and trying new things.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I could dedicate this shout-out to! The support I receive is an abundance of love. First and foremost, I would be remissed if I did not recognize my Heavenly Father for paving the way for me. My mother Katrina, she’s been my greatest support from the start. She’s witnessed the ups and downs and has cheered me on every step of the way. All of my family and close friends! My CMA (Christian Models Association) family and Coach Angela “Stikks.” I came across this family of Christian women determined to follow their dreams, and I was sold. I knew I had a desire in my heart, and CMA awakened that dream, and I’m so grateful to have come across this organization!
