We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyrik Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyrik, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small, rural city called Jackson. It’s about forty minutes south of Atlanta, Georgia. Jackson is known for its tight-knit community and reputation in sports. We take great pride in the sports that we compete in, which include football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and track & field. My mother got me involved sports at a young age. She felt that it would be a good outlet for me, considering that I was the only child at the time. I soon fell in love with the thrill of competing every year. Playing the sports that I loved allowed me to have fun, and taught me valuable lessons I would later use in my everyday life.

What was your thought process behind starting your business?
It all started with my love and passion for athletics. My mother introduced me to sports at a very young age. I was very active and I loved to compete no matter which sport I played. I was a multi-sport athlete, competing in baseball, football, basketball, and track & field.

I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. I decided to attend Kennesaw State University to continue my football career. After just two years, I made the decision to hang up the cleats. I realized that college football is more of a business than anything and it was no longer enjoyable for me. I wasn’t getting the opportunities that I needed, so I decided to branch out and create my own. I took all of the knowledge that I soaked up over my two years on the football team and applied it to my own brand. I created Nxt Level Athletix, a fitness brand for both athletes and non-athletes. My main goal is to help everyone achieve their goals and take their training to a new level in an athletic fashion.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to a book I’ve been reading called ‘Manifest Now’ by Idil Ahmed. In this book Idil talks about manifestations and teaches her audience how to create the reality they want. It’s designed to guide you through the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of manifestations. I gravitated toward this book because I’m a believer in manifestations and creating the life that I want for myself. I believe that If I claim what I want in life, and I actively pursue those things, they will eventually become my reality.
