We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Quackenbush and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was pretty simple—I wanted to create something that could make a real difference for people while also giving me the freedom to shape my own path. I’d seen a lot of businesses with big fees and complicated processes, and I thought, “What if I could make things easier and actually help people keep more of their hard-earned money?” I wanted to build a business where I could connect with clients on a personal level, understand their needs, and offer real value. It was definitely a leap of faith, but I knew that if I could bring genuine service and transparency into an industry that often lacks it, I’d be doing something worthwhile.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Blue Valley Payments, is all about helping other business owners keep more of their hard-earned money by reducing or even eliminating the high fees that come with payment processing. What sets me apart is the personal touch—I’m not a big, faceless company just looking at the numbers. I’m genuinely invested in the success of each client and believe in building real, lasting relationships with the people I work with. I make it my mission to show my clients how much I care by being upfront, honest, and always looking out for their best interests.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. Starting out, I faced the usual doubts and setbacks—figuring out the ins and outs of the industry, learning how to stand out, and earning the trust of clients. But with the support of my family and the determination to keep going, I found ways to overcome each challenge by focusing on what I could control: my effort and the quality of service I offer. Every setback was a chance to improve, and each time I kept going, I got closer to building the business I dreamed of.

What I’m most proud of is seeing how my work has positively impacted other small businesses. Knowing I’m helping others thrive and keep more of what they’ve earned is incredibly fulfilling. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that authenticity goes a long way—people can tell when you genuinely care, and that makes all the difference. So, if there’s one thing I want the world to know about my brand, it’s that I’m here to serve and support business owners. Blue Valley Payments isn’t just about processing transactions; it’s about building partnerships and helping others succeed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I live here in Dahlonega, I’ve got the inside scoop on the best spots to check out. It’s just a straight shot up 400 from Atlanta, making it the perfect spot for a quick, easy getaway! If you’re looking to make your stay extra special, definitely check out one of the StayDahlonega treehouses—they’re as unique as it gets and add a little adventure to the experience (and my good friend and owner of Journey Carpentry helped build a few of them!). If my best friend were visiting for a week, here’s how I’d make sure they get the full Dahlonega experience, from incredible local spots to the best eats, drinks, and scenic views.

Day 1: Getting Acquainted with the Heart of Dahlonega
We’d start our day at Blue 42 Coffee, followed by breakfast bagels from Picnic Cafe on the square. After checking out local spots like Giggle Monkey toys and Paul Thomas Chocolates, we’d grab a light lunch at Waffle’s English Tea Room.

Day 2: Adventure at the Consolidated Gold Mine & Spirits Tavern
We’d explore the Consolidated Gold Mine, going hundreds of feet underground to experience a real 1800s gold mine with some of the best guides around! Afterward, we’d enjoy a hearty dinner at Spirits Tavern with burgers and craft cocktails.

Day 3: Hiking and Wine at Cavender Creek Winery
Starting with a scenic hike, we’d work up an appetite for an afternoon at Cavender Creek Winery. It’s one of my favorite spots for its casual vibe and special significance—it’s where I got engaged and married.

Day 4: Exploring North Georgia and Big Creek Distillery
Today, we’d venture into North Georgia, maybe taking a scenic drive or visiting Amicalola Falls. After our outdoor adventure, we’d unwind with drinks at Big Creek Distillery, the perfect spot for a little post-adventure relaxation.

Day 5: Breweries and Local Eats
All about local flavors today! We’d visit a brewery or two, sampling craft beers and enjoying some great local eats for dinner.

Day 6: Gold Museum and Unique Finds
We’d check out the Gold Museum to dive deeper into Dahlonega’s gold rush history and then explore more local shops to find unique treasures.

Day 7: Coffee, Bagels, and Farewell
Our last morning would start with coffee at Jethros Public House before grabbing another breakfast bagel from Picnic Cafe. We’d spend our final day soaking in Dahlonega’s charm with a relaxed stroll around town and wrap it all up with a farewell dinner at Spirits Tavern.

This week would be packed with the best of Dahlonega—great coffee, local drinks, unique adventures, and so much small-town charm!

Visiting around the holidays? You get all this PLUS the “Hallmark” experience. It’s really unlike anything else and I am so blessed and grateful to call it home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely! My biggest shoutout goes to my wife—she’s my rock. She never doubts me for a second and is always the first to jump in and do whatever she can to support me in every pursuit. Her belief in me keeps me grounded and motivated every day.

I also have to thank my family, who’s always there, backing me up however they can. And my mom, who never misses a chance to tell me how proud she is. Hearing that from her keeps me moving forward, even when things get tough. So, to my wife, my family, and especially my mom—thank you for being my biggest supporters. I couldn’t do this without you.
