We had the good fortune of connecting with Tylar Brumfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tylar, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because it was truly the only way I fit into this world. I love writing music and sharing my songs with others. I am able to share my experiences with others and also give them entry to share theirs with me. Besides my passion for singing and performing it’s honestly one of the best rushes I’ve ever had in my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I have been singing since I was 3 years old and song writing since I was 12. It hasn’t been easy pursuing music but I have never given up on my dream. I started out singing with live bands in my home town of Rochester, New York at 19. I had the opportunity to record my first song with a local artist from a recording he heard that I made on my phone to sound cloud. It was absolutely amazing hearing my voice and my lyrics come to life in a studio setting. From that point on I started singing and writing hooks for a lot of rappers. I created my first mixtape called “fan the flames” on datpiff and I was so proud! It’s funny to think about those times because back then I didn’t know much about recording, mixing or mastering. I have since recorded two albums and multiple singles and remixes with the help of my talented producers Jk productions, Flyguy J, Atrax beats, and Blame ronnie.

In the mist of my recordings I took a brief sabbatical to go back to school and get my music performance degree at Monroe Community College. Yes, your girl is classically trained in opera and classical music. I love singing classical pieces. There are so many different languages and composers that I never thought I would love. I’m also currently pursuing my bachelors in theatre at the University of Charlotte. I will be graduating in December of 2024.

I am blessed to have met so many talented artist in the past few years but mainly with those I got to work with from my hometown. One of my favorite collaborations was with 38 Spesh, Baaba Lin, Prince O, and Who is 3AM. I Just wanted to name a few because I have worked with so many artist in the past decade both locally and in different states.

I want people to know that I love music and that I make music for them. My music is for everyone and especially for those that can relate. I am just a caring and daring black girl from the west side also known as the 19th ward and I want to put on for my city.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow. This is a great question. I have lived everywhere from NY, Vegas, Atlanta, Charlotte and Texas. I have a few favorite spots in every city but I would honestly say pull up and find out. My friends are super picky so there is no telling where they would want to go. I would absolutely recommend going to Stats or Stadium in Charlotte if you’re looking to enjoy some hip hop and rnb with good food and drinks. I would recommend both strips in Vegas there are a multitude of places to choose from. Atlanta I would say visit MSR for my girls who like girls lol. Texas man… just go to Texas. And lastly if you were to visit my hometown in Rochester, get yourself a few drinks from any bar on east avenue and then go buy a garbage plate or some country sweet chicken wings. We are real gritty in the city so there is no telling what might be open today and closed next weekend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my son Blake because he is the reason I haven’t given up. I would also like to send a very special shout-out to my mother Dr. Barbara James. Obviously, without her and my father I would not be here but she has been my rock. Anything I ever wanted to pursue she has always stood beside me cheering me on. I didn’t always recognize how big of a supporter she was of my music until I was older. She paved the way for me to do what I love with all the many sacrifices she’s made along the way on behalf of my success. She is my biggest fan and my personal angel.

I would also like to shout out my cousin Grace Muwawa of (House Of Muwawa) for taking lead in my music career as my manager. She came in and learned as much as she could on the what to do’s and what not to do’s. Although she is a full time designer and fashionista she includes me in her schedule to make sure I’m still on the correct path.

And shout out to my friends and family who have always held me up when I was down. Shakila, Sauntai, Destiny, Deborah, Stephanie, Aunt Shariyln, and so many more!
