We had the good fortune of connecting with Tuyen Chau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tuyen, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I’m going to be one of “those people” when I say that happiness is fleeting. A lot of things can make me happy—a full belly, sweets, a promotion at work, parties. However, I often find myself making sure to reframe my thought process in the moment. I’m fulfilled because I have a family, food, a roof over my head, and a chance to pursue my goals. As cliché as it sounds, life’s short and we ought to put in effort in anything that we do. Knowing that I did everything the best I could in any given situation is what makes me happy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Looking back, I’m most happy about the journey I chose to get to where I’m at today. There were and there will continue to be mistakes but it exists to help me figure out next steps. Now I’m excited to see where these next few years will take me in terms of growth and implementation.
As for challenges, the one obstacle that I’m continuously working on has always been about the decisions I made that did not make sense to those around me. The fight against the traditional path will be a lifelong one for me. Obstacles come and go but what you take from your experience is what will help you grow intellectually and emotionally.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend came to visit, I would feed them until they can no longer eat, show them my some of favorite activities, and of course provide them an Atlanta tourist experience. Some of these places will include a food experience on Buford Hwy strip and Duluth. We can go hiking at one of Georgia’s state parks and play tennis. Some of the tourist things we can do would be go to Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola Factory, and attend a show at the Fox Theatre.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes. I believe that there is always something you can learn from each person you meet in your life and experience you gain. Each person I have met in my life has taught my something whether they realize it or not.
I would like to highlight my family. They taught me what it means to show up, not settle for less, and more importantly, to always give back. I’d also like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband who was the first person to fully accept me as I am. Lastly, to my colleagues who gave me the opportunity to join in a fun, collaborative, and supportive work environment.
