We had the good fortune of connecting with Tunisia Ananaba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tunisia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process when starting Flavors Of Love Party Foods was indecisive because I struggled between my heart and my mind. My heart was telling me to follow my dreams of cooking and my mind was telling me that I could not handle another responsibility. Ultimately I took a chance on myself and followed my heart. Much of my reasoning came from my personal experiences and watching those around me. I watched my mother in the kitchen cooking with so much love and care from a young age. I was just always drawn to the kitchen and the process of cooking and I would literally stand in the kitchen watching and talking to my mother as she cooked. It was never a time where I asked her about the process I simply watched, and over the years I had learned how to cook without action but just by observation. I also grew up around entrepreneurs; My great-grandmother was the first black florist in our community and I watched her run a business for majority of my life. I was able to see firsthand all of the positive aspects of entrepreneurship and the challenges that go along with it. The one factor that contributed to me ultimately deciding to start my business was the pandemic. Working in a corporate position during the height of COVID opened my eyes tremendously. I watched so many of my friends and loved ones get laid off, or their work hours cut. Observing that, I decided at that moment I was going to use the gift that God gave me to make a difference in my life and literally it’s been up since that decision.
What should our readers know about your business?
Flavors of Love Party Foods LLC is a catering company that’s located just south of Atlanta, Georgia. It’s rooted in creativity and known for flawless execution that can only be provided when the heart and soul are aligned. Flavors of Love Party Foods LLC presents the food that not only touches your taste buds but it leaves a memorable mark on the heart. Catering is an industry that is filled with so many wonderful caterers, chefs, and home cooks but I believe the thing that sets Flavors of Love apart from the rest is the attention to details. Little things matter, flavors matter, great food matters, and Flavors of Love provides that consistently.
I am extremely proud of the business and the future that is ahead yet I am humbled. I have been cooking since I was a little girl and much of my knowledge comes from watching my mom, grandma, and great-grandma in the kitchen. I’m self-taught and I’m excited that I get to share my love for food with each client I encounter. I always love the genuine responses of happiness I receive when people eat my food, it brings me so much joy. My grandmother always says that she can taste the love in my food hence the name “Flavors of Love”.
I am a testament that hard work does pay off. Since the official launch of Flavors of Love Party Foods it has been a whirlwind of opportunities for me. I am extremely grateful for every company, person, or organization that has booked with the business. Though business has been growing steadily I have had to examine how to balance all the aspects of my life; balancing work and home life is a job. Work and home life balance is a topic that is dear to my heart because I am a woman, and no shade to all the brothers out there but women run the show. I have been a wife for nine years now and a mother to three wonderful children the same amount of time; and the one word that comes to me when thinking of that work and life balance is intentionality. It has been a challenge balancing my career as an educator, the business, family, and ministry but being intentional and laser focused about each area keeps me balanced. I want the world to know that Flavors of Love Party Foods’ is here and moving in a big way. My underlying goal for Flavors of Love is to reach and show as many people as possible love one bite at a time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Everyone that truly knows me would understand that I am a introvert, I truly love being in my home with my family and close friends. If I had some friends coming to visit there are a few places in the city that I would definitely recommend. We would start our morning at one of my favorite spots Breakfast at Barney’s, the food there is really good. After eating I would take them to Ponce City Market to hang out and do some shopping and then we would end our night listnening to some live jazz at St. James Live.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I would like to thank the one who is indeed the center of it all, my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. Without his assistance I could never accomplish anything but he makes everything possible and I am grateful. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, Pastor Anthony and First Lady Stephanie Williams. Their prayers, love, and support have been instrumental in my life and my success. Thank you both for being top tier examples in my life and in the life of so many others, Proverbs 22:6. I would also like to thank my husband, who is truly my number one supporter and has been pushing me to step out on faith since I shared my desire to start a business. Last but not least I would like to thank the little peole that inspire me in the biggest way, my children.
